Prediction: Obama will pick Edwards as his running mate. |
|
Edited on Thu Feb-21-08 02:15 PM by sparosnare
I know, I'm not a psychic or an oracle and I don't have a crystal ball into the future. But I'm noticing a trend - former Edwards staffers and supporters moving to Obama, endoresements by unions who would be in Edwards' camp and now word that Plouffe is in NC.
I might be wrong but then I might not be. Edwards might not have endorsed yet for a reason. ;-)

I think he'll pick someone with lots of foreign-relations and national security experience.

13. I agree--he has to get a "Cheney"! |
|
Someone who will dispel all of the concern over "lack of experience"--and he needs someone popular in or from one of the BIG states or regions.
I've been intrigued by Sen. Webb of VA--but I'm waiting to see who gets the nod

and maybe Richardson knows that which is why he hasn't endorsed.
Biden..eh...not a bad choice..but I think Richardson would be a better one..

29. Yep - and experience outside of the legislative kind |
|
Edwards does not, Richardson does. Richardson is from out west, and is half-Mexican, Edwards is neither. Richardson has been my guess for awhile now for all of those reasons...

10. I doubt that, but I will say this much: The longer the primary goes on... |
|
the more likely you are to be right.
As the primary goes on, the Dem. Party gets more and more divided. And Obama's tapping Edwards will shore up the Edwards supporters and help unite the party. It's the best unifying move Obama can do short of tapping Clinton, and I still dismiss that as an impossibility.

Obama needs someone seasoned with years (and years...) of government experience who shores up his credentials with foriegn policy so he isnt at a disadvantage to McCain in the GE.
Edwards wouldnt fit either of those two requirements, but he would definately be a good choice for a cabinet position.

14. I don't think so. In fact, I don't think there's any way. |
|
Neither Obama or Edwards have serious foreign policy creds. And Edwards was a one term Senator with no other legislative or governing experience. That ticket would look really weak.

|
Edited on Thu Feb-21-08 02:20 PM by peaches2003
VP has to come with foreign policy and security experience, Obama's weak suit, to counter McCain's only decent talking point (though there is no doubt McCain would have us in war after war and I think he's a madman). I agree with the others on this. Edwards doesn't add anything that Obama doesn't already have himself.

Especially foreign policy experience. I love Edwards - I was an Edwards supporter - but I think a better choice would be Richardson or even Chris Dodd.

20. VP I don't think so. He's too talented. Question where can Edward's be most helpful to everyone. |
|
I'm looking forward to his continued presence in defining U.S. issues and concerns. Obama is popular but that's about it. Obama is nothing more than a Tom Cruise of the Dem party. Why do women swoon at their feet? Why do people go "gaga" over their every word? It's the "halo effect." I didn't vote for Bush but I remind people that they get what they voted for. I won't vote for Obama but you will get what you voted for. An actor playing a good roll and getting the big bucks.

Obama will pick a national security VP. The war's got to end and the troops be withdrawn first and foremost; and he will need the heft on the ticket to run against McCain. So would Hillary if she were the nominee, but to a lesser extent because of Bill.

It's no use talking about a running mate until we have a better idea of who the Republican nominee will be, IMO.

He needs to go with someone who has more experience, and expecially with someone who has credentials in national security. Wes Clark would be my ideal, though I doubt that would happen. Maybe someone like Jim Webb.
Hate to say it, but Edwards already had and blew his chance as running mate.

Richardson brings a large demographic under the Obama tent...Also a likeable guy, fairly progressive
Biden gives him the foreign policy street-cred...
Edwards gives name-recognition, but Obama already has former Edwards voters anyway...
Webb is the choice of the pundit world...
Kerry is a dark horse with the 'veteran' cred all tied up, and he's pre-swift-boated.
Claire McCaskill gets all the 'women-voting-on-gender-only' former Hill-backers...
My prediction
P - Obama VP - Richardson SS - Biden SD - McPeak AG - Edwards
Kerry, McCaskill, Webb, Kucinich all get cabinet positions..?

nice try though. Edwards has waited far too long to endorse, that shows incompetency, flawed judgment. This is Edwards problem, the same judgment that eluded him during the primaries has come back to hunt him. Same thing in the senate.
If he wanted to be a change candidate, he could have endorse from the day he suspended his candidacy.
This is not a game, this is about the American people

30. I thought Edwards/Obama was unbeatable. But Obama/Edwards would be very strong. |
|
Not sure if Obama would pick Edwards though.
Edwards was the VP nominee in 2004. I'm not sure Obama would pick him again for another election four years later, and plus Senator Obama should go with someone with more experience. Like maybe Senator Kerry or Senator Biden. Hell, what about General Wesley Clark?
....What am I talking about. Barack hasn't won the nomination yet. Let him win the nomination, then we'll talk. I'm pulling for Hillary, and I think she is going to win the next few states. This thing is FAR from over. If Clinton is the nominee, I'm pulling for Clinton/Clark!!
