Should Al Gore & John Edwards Make A Late Run? |
|
Just throwing this out there. It would throw some for a loop, that's for sure. After all, Edwards "suspended" his campaign, I'm sure he didn't end it.

I would explain my answer but no facts to back me up to fight the flaming I would receive if I said what I thought. When and if I have the facts...I will explain but this post will be down in the rabbit hole before that happens, I am sure.

1) If Gore really wanted to run, he knows he would have won the nomination and chose not to. Obviously he's not interested this time around.
2) The people have spoken on Edwards. And they clearly said they want Clinton or Obama and not Edwards. Can't be any clearer than that.

I think Gore didn't run because he knows there is a wave of discontent for Bush and the Republicans that support the Bush administrations policies. Gore is like the cannon of the Democratic party and you only pull it out when you really need it. He probably assumes that whoever wins, will most likely win the general election. I think his second concern is that the DNC sanctioned both Florida and Michigan this year and he didn't want to have any part in disenfranchising the voters of those states (specifically Florida). When it comes down to it though, the party sure has built a strong wall of devision this year, and a cannon may be needed to knock it down. Don't count him out just yet.

Edwards was not able to win a single state. I don't know why anyone thinks he could start winning all of a sudden now, especially at a level that would win sufficient delegates to supercede either Obama or Hillary. Just a pipe dream.

8. That would be a ticket I would be far more |
|
comfortable voting for than what is on the horizon right now. It's not that I don't think either Obama or Hillary would make a fine President, it's just that I would KNOW that Gore/Edwards would be a dynamite team.

We have two great candidates already. If we had mediocre candidates, then I could see him jumping in. Besides, Obama supporters love Obama so much I wouldn't see them leaving Obama for Gore. And I don't think Clinton supporters would appreciate Gore running against Clinton very much, especially how electable she is. I think a Gore/Edwards ticket would appeal to Edwards supporters, undecided, and maybe the independents.

12. I suppose Edwards could "un-suspend." But there is no possible way for Gore to enter now -- |
|
his name is not on any ballot, and he has passed the filing deadlines. His only hope would be a brokered convention scenario.

That would be so fantastic, I would have trouble really believing it. If for some reason the Democratic nominee is moratally wounded by some new terrible info and The Republican was going to win, absolutely Gore and Edwards should be "drafted" at the convention. America is in deep trouble and a Republican would be the nail in our coffin. Whatever it takes to keep them out of the White House. Take no prisoners(Bush did the same thing in 2000) We deserve decent men to run this country and stop torturing the world.

15. John Edwards did the patriotic and right thing, and stepped aside. |
|
At the time, I was hurt and upset by his decision.
But I understand why he did what he did.
He's a great man, and he did the correct thing.
I'll always be an Edwards supporter, and look forward to joining him in whatever cause he chooses next. Which I'm sure will be surrounding the critical issue of poverty, which I'd be more than happy to help the Edwards move this nation forward on.
But his days in the Presidential spotlight, at least for now, are over!!
As for Gore, same thing.
