Let me ask everyone this simple but IMPORTANT question.
Regardless of who I am, and who I support, what we need to know is - are you willing to back the eventual Democratic nominee - I certainly DO not wish to see Denver (my home) ablaze because both Obama and Hillary supporters are still at war at the convention.

Yes or no? That's all I want to hear - I don't want arguments, or justification, just your promise of backing the eventual Democratic nominee. If you say no, then obviously you do not belong in here because this is Democratic Underground where we support Democrats regardless of DLC or not.

May I please get a rec, if this question is a viable and good one?

Hawkeye-X

He can attempt to earn my vote.

I will keep an open mind.

7. If it's won by a shuffling of super delegate votes, that would leave a really
bad taste in my mouth, plus an intense dislike and lack of respect toward the candidate, but I'd vote for the nom anyway.

I'd be voting AGAINST the Republicans, which is paramount this time around.

5. of course
no goddamn question. who you gonna vote for, McCain or Nader? get real. The only possible reason someone wouldn't vote for either Democrat is because they think the policies of the past 7 + years have been pretty good and should continue.

6. Yes!
I look at my vote as one LESS for the Republican nominee. I heard Randi Rhodes say the other day that the only way to prevent voter fraud this time around is to turn out en masse so there are too many votes for them to mess with.

Whenever this question is posed, there are several in both camps, and you have to honor the decision of those people who feel so strongly about a candidate that they refuse to vote for the opponent. But I take hope from the fact that DU isn't the real world, and the majority of Dems out there will show up at the polls and do the "D" thing.

8. What is this some kind of barometer?
Hillary throws more mud and let see who is still with her no matter what.

Every time she does something more outrageous, one of these "will you vote for our candidate no matter what"
threads goes up.

Trying to test the water. Hey guess what every time she does this shit someone else walks away.

11. No barometer - just trying to reconfirm the mission of this board
and to the Democratic Party as whole.

Just reminding what DU's mission is:

Democratic Underground is an online community for Democrats and other progressives. Members are expected to be generally supportive of progressive ideals, and to support Democratic candidates for political office. Democratic Underground is not affiliated with the Democratic Party, and comments posted here are not representative of the Democratic Party or its candidates.

16. It is hard to tell exactly what the mission of Du is by looking at GD-P.
Edited on Mon Feb-25-08 12:59 PM by Big Blue Marble
It we have a candidate that resorts to Rovian tactics again and again and her supporters
justify it all, their behavior threatens the mission of DU and the Democratic Party.

And then you mildly ask are we all still on board. The answer from me is no. I will
not participate in a party that uses Republican tactics that I have despised for decades.

I will leave the political arena completely.

9. Of course I will - I'm a Democrat and a member of the Democratic Party
I will vote for Democrats up and down the ticket in order to further our party and our party's platform.

I may not be happy with my choices in some instances, but I'll stil vote for the Democrat.

10. No, I can't imagine ever coming to the point that I could vote for Obama
His supporters have been just too vile for me to consider joining them. I've always voted across the board for democrats, but I don't want to be part of encouraging such mean-spirited campaign behavior.

I would have to be really convinced that a republican in the White House would really make a huge difference in order to change my mind. Bush has made more changes than anyone would have thought, and yet my life is still basically the same as it was 7 years ago. It seems to me that the congress is more important to changes in citizens everyday lives.

23. Life may be the same FOR YOU as it was 7 years ago.
Have you been asleep? Haven't you noticed rising fuel prices? Inflation? Been to the grocery store lately? Do you pay for your own healthcare? Our premiums have quadrupled in 7 years, and we're young, healthy 30 somethings.

Maybe for YOU life is roughly the same. Many others have fallen from middle class to poor, and those retirees on a fixed income are having a difficult time. The tax cuts, which benefit the wealthiest 1%, are forcing the rest of us to pick up the bill. And you say life is unchanged from 7 years ago?

32. You're not concerned about the Supreme Court?.?.?
You should try to imagine who McLameBrain would nominate to those empty seats. There could be more than one to fill.

Just because Barack's supporters are over the top sometimes is not a reason not to vote for him in the General if he is the nominee.

I feel the same way about Hillary's supporters, but I will vote for her if she is the nominee.

By now, I think everybody here, if they are serious about supporting or not supporting a democratic candidate, can and should have followed up on the policies, backgrounds, beliefs, legislation, etc. of each of the two candidates.

If, for some reason, you have found Clinton or Barack, to be outside of your political belief boundaries, then i say yes...tombstone yourself and find a suitable independent, libertarian, republican, centrist, green, etc internet website.

By now we should all have done our homework and be able to support one or the other.

I have and will support either.

:hi:

A lot may happen between now and then.
I haven't been happy to give my vote to a Dem nominee since Carter/Reagan. Even Gore didn't thrill me back in the days, but bush gave me the heebie-jeebies. It's beginning to look like this year will be no different. Anti-Repub instead of pro-Dem. I imagine a lot of Repubs feel the same way.

Too bad we didn't have this level of enthusiasm back in 2000. If only Gore had had "charisma" he could have broken the election tampering barrier.

15. No it isnt a viable question
It's a piece of junk question that makes Democratic Underground look like shit.

SHAME ON YOU!

You will have no promise from me and I hope you are removed from this place for touting soviet style loyalty oaths.

If this is the norm in the Democratic Party then it is rapidly crashing. Thankfully I don't see too many people outside of the clinton camp making threats when it comes to this crap.

Let me say it fully. It's OBAMA or a write in from me in 08 if DU wants to ban me because of that than I would not want to post here anyway. Thankfully DU does not cader to sick people like you in my view.

DU is not Billery/Loyalty oath or Bann3d type of forum.

25. If my state is "In Play"...
....I will absolutely vote for the Democratic Nominee.

If we are not "In Play" (most likely), I will probably either write-in Kucinich, Edwards, or vote Green.

At this point in Election 2008, I am more worried about the down ticket, and will be supporting progressive Democrats in our local Primaries, but absolutely voting FOR the Democrat down ticket in 2008.

I WILL be sending money to Kucinich in his battle against conservative Democrats in his Primary, and hope to help more Progressives get elected to Congress in 2008.

27. It will be painful if I'm forced to vote for Obama, but yes.
McCain is better than Bush, but still FAR worse than Obama would be. In the end, my loyalty to the ideals of the greater Democratic Party is stronger than my ego--something many Obama supporters can't say. A Dem President of *any* stripe gives a Dem Congress a lot more power, and THAT is what's truly important.

Plus I'd at least have the consolation of voting for the first African American candidate from a major party. I think he's a sleazy panderer to Southern homophobes, but McCain's a worse one, so yeah.
