Poll question: #2 Equal Opportunity Running Mate / VP Poll
Again, this is for EITHER Clinton or Obama -- who would be the best of these ten possibilities if YOUR favored candidate were to win the nomination.

If your choice is not here, check the first one:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=4782382&mesg_id=4782382

If still not there, well, someone else has posted a somewhat disturbing (to me) one here:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=4777259&mesg_id=4777259

If STILL not in one of these three, then speak up! Would love to hear all thoughts on possible running mates, which candidate you think they'd be best matched up with, and why.

(Oh, and please vote in this one as well as the #1 thread even if your top pick is in the other thread)

Thanks!

4. :-) These first two polls have included some feel-good choices
Later on I'll probably ask to narrow down to which ones would be most LIKELY to be on the candidate's short list. Not sure whether Dean would be there, but pretty sure Kucinich won't...

:(

Try saying "Obama-Menendez" three times fast.

:P

(Clinton-Mendendez would certainly be a possibility as far as tongue-twisting goes)

8. I voted for Senator Boxer, I liked the way she held the gavel up and threatened
to smack the shit out of Inhofe with it, while he was busy trashing Al Gore during Al's testimony regarding the looming catastrophe of Global Warming Climate Change.

9. Brian Schweitzer would be an excellent choice too.
Brian Schweitzer, the populist governor of Montana, would also be an excellent choice for VEEP.

13. Give me a T! Give me an I! give me a M!
What does that spell? Virginia as a Democratic stronghold for the next decade.

Actually, it doesn't spell that. It spells 'Tim'. But a clever literary device anyway.

14. Hoping to carry a state is one good reason to pick someone
Anything more than that for Kaine? Not to dwell on silly stuff too much but someone did point out that "Obama-Kaine" sounds like some kind of anesthetic or might be used negatively by Repugs to reinforce the "cocaine" narrative they're already gonna push.

I'm surprised at the response for Boxer so far, wondering if this is "feelgood" or for real. Have heard Janet Napolitano a few times but so far no takers.

15. Some
As a hardened, but pragmatic, atheist, I think Kaine and Obama speak to the good part about why people turn to God, rather than the bad ones. Also, Kaine has a reputation for being able to convert people who've bought into the 'Democrats only care about gays and socialism' thing, and right their broken perspective. With Warner in the senate and Kaine in the vice-president's office, the transformation of Virginia into a swing-state would be complete.

(The importance of which can't be overstated: Florida is, despite what anyone says, going deeper red every year. We need to be finding new states to make inroads into, and Virginia is a significant piece of the Electoral College.)

Napolitano is neat, but she's not particularly dynamic. Boxer would be the coolest, but she does fine work in the senate, and she won't bring a new dimension to the ticket. Also, should Arnold look to the senate, we'll need the strongest possible candidate to stop him, and Boxer is tough as fucking nails.

17. I don't see why Arnold would go to the Senate

Boxer would bring the new dimension of being a female to the ticket, and many are suggesting that if Barack wins he should balance out the ticket in that way to somewhat make up for the disappointment Hillary supporters would be feeling.

19. Term limits, yo.
Arnold is term limited, and where else does he have to go? Dude is popular in a party bereft of popular figures, and the GOP would love to have him as a standard-bearer.

I also don't see how brining a reliably liberal senator from a reliably Democratic state onto the ticket benefits Obama; whatever the Internet says, Obama will have no challenge from his left flank. If it's a woman he's thinking on, why not Sebellius (sp., probably)? I don't care for her much, but at least she could make them devote resources to holding Kansas.

20. Very true, good point and she does bring executive experience.
OTOH there are still a lot of people thinking BO needs to bring foreign policy experience to the ticket, which could preclude choosing most governors except perhaps Richardson.

I've wanted to see Bob Graham as VP on a presidential ticket for a long time now.
