I've seen people point out that Obama stutters |
|
Racism?
I wouldn't say so. But apparently it would be sexism if he was a woman. At least according to a few dozen posts I've read about what constitutes sexism over the past few days.

2. I don't mind him "stuttering"...unlike Bush, what comes out is usually |
|
extremely well-thought out. If he's said the equivalent of "Is our children learning?" yet, I certainly haven't heard it.

18. Any politician speaking today sounds brilliant compared to |
|
Bush. His father was boring/lying but had good speech skills.
President Clinton was the best speech giver of our modern day Presidents. He could have been even a great President if not for his "moderate agenda" with NAFTA, media consolidation, welfare reforms, and Bosnia. When he said he wanted Republicans to share his administration that worried and angered me. We wanted rid of them that's why we changed parties for "change".
Linda Tripp would not have been in the White House.
They called President Reagan a brilliant "communicator". He used speech writers and TelePrompter's. He was after all...an actor.
Very few of them wrote their own speeches. Maybe we could believe them if they didn't.

But I've never heard Obama stutter. I have heard he say 'ummm' over and over between every other word.
BTW? He got over 41% of the votes in MA in the primary. That's out of 1.6 million. That's a lot of people.

7. Not stuttering, more floundering for words that have not been written out |
|
for him and memorized.
And the floundering is more for ideas and answers. He simply cannot hold his own unless it's prepared beforehand.

That way he can say, 'I agree with what she said....um...er...and...' He has to digest it before he can regurgitate it.

what's the big fucking deal about stuttering? PS. I'm supporting Clinton, and I think this post is bullshit.
There are many (and I do mean many) more substantive examples of unfairness to Hillary in the media and on this board without having to grasp at straws like that. I know you want to marginalize HRC, but you needn't fling bullshit about to do it.
Furthermore, I have met Barack Obama. I have seen Barack Obama, and he does not stutter anyway.

|
Edited on Thu Feb-28-08 05:47 PM by backscatter712
It's a minor, minor critique I have of Obama's debating style.
It's better to pause and leave a couple seconds of silence than to go "Um, Uh."
Still, when he does say what he has to say, I have to conclude he's a debating and speaking genius.
Every time Hillary's gone against Obama with his black belt in verbal jiu jitsu, she gets thrown. Every time.
And McCain likely won't fare much better.
He does a hell of a lot better than you or I would do in the spotlight, I'll tell you that.

23. no it has nothing to do with sexism- it is pretty petty and cruel though- |
|
My oldest child was a stutterer. People can be incredibly cruel and heartless. Some individuals never get over the ridicule that others put them through.
Is it ok to make fun of people with disabilities? I know people who do, and have very little patience or respect for them.
It isn't 'funny' and it isn't something that anyone who has personal experience with would support.

25. Anyone around here old enough to remember JFK at news conferences? |
|
Edited on Thu Feb-28-08 05:55 PM by MoJoWorkin
Well, I do.
WHen asked a question, Kennedy would regularly say aaaaaa aaaaa aaaaa aaaa while he was thinking carefully to formulate exactly what he would say. RFK did it too.
I believe that is the very same thing that Obama does---it is not stuttering. It is done as a mechanism for giving time to craft a precisely worded response.
The Kennedy's didn't do it when they were delivering speeches; neither does Obama.
