Is there a recent Texas poll? |
|
The last one I saw had Bush at 55%.
That's not all that great, and now he's had the 911 testimony and the meltdown in Iraq.
Texas is full of small towns, and more of those kids are dying in Iraq than are city kids.
And I wonder if the Ft. Hood area will be quite as gung ho about the war now.
I'd love to see a more recent poll.

2. For our state, Bush at 55% is remarkable |
|
I still see too much support for him here in the metroplex. We'll have to get more of the democratic vote in south and west Texas.
But 55% -- WOW!

But in 2000 Bush* BARELY won Dallas County.
As in 2000 against Al Gore.
As in our popular Gov Bush.
As in Dallas, the buckle of the freakin Bible Belt.
I'm just waiting for Bush* to have to spend some $$ in TX to win.

http://www.dcpoliticalreport.com/CurrentPolls.htmThey're missing a lot of polls, so I wouldn't take their numbers as gospel.

|
Bush is going to carry Texas no matter what. The best we can hope for is that L. Doggett and Martin Frost survive the next election cycle. They have a chance but not a very good one.

If I recall, Doggett might have a fight on his hands now.

9. Kerry Will Do Better than Gore |
|
Kerry won't carry Texas. But he will do better than Gore. I think that he could get 45%. He could carry San Antonio.

Texans who will not vote for Shrub. They'll either stay home or (in some cases hold their noses and) vote for Kerry.
I think good voter registration could turn Texas for Kerry!

At least when chimpy speaks I can stay mildly entertained counting his lies or laughing and something he says. Bob Dole just put people to sleep.

13. Texas will be worthwhile for dem candidate to campaign for in 2012 |
|
Or 2008 assuming the worst happens and Kerry doesn't win the election. Kerry will be stuck with Chimp's messes and thus will not win any traditionally red states when he goes up for re-election. However, Texas is heading blue and four more years of chimp fucking things up could lead to a dem landslide victory including Texas in 2008. However I'd MUCH rather we win in 2004 so that we don't have to live through four more years of the chimp.

14. I'm getting junkmail crap from shrubco. Including the puke inducing pic |
|
of shrub and spouse. I think they just blanket my affluent North Dallas suburb because they assume everyone there is a Pub. And they're probably right about 90% of the time.

15. Even though I expect TX to go at least 7-10% for the shrub, I don't |
|
rule anything out. A fired up Dem base, some apathetic and complacent Pub voters, sprinkle with a couple percent switch due to unhappiness about Iraq, and you got a recipe for some real TX barbecue. The unthinkable. I know it's a pipe dream but it's not impossible.

Texas is creeping away from the right wingers at a clip of ~1% a year. Gore and Nader got about 40-41% between them in '00, Sanchez and Kirk about 42-43% in '02. So y'all are looking at the Texas Democratic Party reviving in '06 and '08 and contending for majority in the state in '10 and '12.
The Republican fervor all over has been gone since late last fall, really. They're watching Washington and the polls and wondering if they really are on ice as thin as it seems.

18. Gore Carried Houston/Harris County |
|
Gore did carry Houston/Harris County at 52% to 48%. A year latter, Lee Brown running as a democrat against an announced Republican Hispanic carried Houston by a similar percentage. Both Barbara Bush and Bush 41 campaigned for the republican. Bush 43 also did a couple of commercials for the republican.

I live in the only Democratic stronghold in Texas, and I can just about guarantee you that there is no way in hell Kerry will even come close to Bush in Texas. I wish it weren't true, but we have to be realistic. We're trying to figure out a way to move to New Mexico, which is still a civilized state.

21. Don't get your hopes up, I think we are going to put Nader there... |
|
I think when he meets with Kerry, they'll agree for Nader to stay out of swing states like Ohio. I think Nader will be spending most of his time campaigning in Texas.
