Sunshine State Scramble
Sen. John Kerry’s presidential campaign is trying to fend off an aggressive Republican effort to woo Jewish voters. The GOP’s not-so-secret weapon: Sen. Joseph Lieberman (D-Conn.), one of Kerry’s vanquished rivals for this year’s presidential nomination.

But in Florida, a key battleground state, recent joint appearances of the former rivals weren’t just about Jewish voters. Lieberman’s support, Kerry campaign strategists believe, will help blunt one of the primary thrusts of the Bush campaign — to paint the Democratic challenger as an ardent left-winger......


...Some 500 members of the left-leaning Tikkun Community, whose “teach-in to Congress for Middle East peace” has changed shape because of dramatic developments in the region, will be in town next week.

Rabbi Michael Lerner, the group’s leader and editor of the magazine that provided its name, said that more than 200 Capitol Hill meetings have been scheduled. “Our main theme is that we want to help people understand why the Bush-Sharon axis of occupation is not good for Israel and not good for the United States,” Rabbi Lerner said in an interview......
