AG: Recent Robo-Calls Illegal
RALEIGH, N.C. -- Telemarketing calls that led North Carolina residents to question whether they could vote have stopped, but voters should question mailings scheduled to arrive soon, Attorney General Roy Cooper said Wednesday.

On Wednesday, Cooper and his consumer protection team demanded that the organization Women’s Voices Women Vote stop breaking state law with prerecorded calls to North Carolina residents. The organization said the calls would stop.

The robo-calls told residents that they would be receiving a voter registration form in the mail that they needed to sign. But the deadline to register by mail has passed, and some call recipients already were registered, causing confusion.

“Regardless of the motivation, the robo-calls violated the law and they needed to stop,” Cooper said.

The calls violated state law by failing to disclose who sponsored the call and failing to offer the organization’s contact information to get the calls to stop.

3. It wasn't Rove
The Clintons and their assorted sellouts from Bill's administration have watched the last decade very, very closely, and they've learned all the wrong lessons from it. Rove is indeed their teacher, though he hasn't given any in-house instruction. Rather, they've studied his every move, and noted the fact that so far, he's gotten away with it.

And although some good things have come out of the Center for American Progress (David Sirota...and I can't think of any others), it appears now that Podesta built it as a propaganda/money machine, not with the intent of undoing the mighty wurlitzer, but rather with the intent of competing with it in its areas of expertise; outdoing it, even.

I look at the former Clinton staffers - not just the people in WVWV - even people like McCurry and Stephalupagus and Carville and Begala, and even some of the junior players, and I just see a bunch of goddamned sellouts. They all cashed in, and now that they play the game from the centers of power, we see most of them corrupted by it. I'm sure there are some who retained their principles, and it's unfortunate that none of them come to mind right now.

AG: Recent Robo-Calls On Voting Info. Are Illegal

Apr 30, 2008 - 10:00 PM Updated: 10:57 PM
NBC-17 TV

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Thousands of North Carolinians have received automated phone calls in the last few days that state officials said the broke the law.
Discuss this story
The calls started last week as voters began getting automated phone messages telling them to expect a voter registration packet in the mail.
The problem was, North Carolina’s register-by-mail deadline had passed nearly two weeks earlier, and many who were already registered became confused.

As the complaints began to pile up, those cataloging them began to notice a pattern where certain groups seemed to be targeted.
The situation was brought to the attention of Attorney General Roy Cooper’s office. He said those automated phone calls are illegal.

“They don't identify the group sponsoring the call, nor do they give the recipient info as to who they need to contact to stop the calls from coming,” said Cooper.
The calls originated from a group calling itself Women's Voices-Women Vote. Late Wednesday afternoon, Cooper's office sent the group this letter ordering them to cease and desist making those calls.

“A lot of the complaints came from African-American voters,” said Chris Kromm of the Institute for Southern Studies. “When we heard a lot of the complaints were coming from African-Americans, that really raised a red flag for us.”

Kromm also said the institute's research indicates the Women's Voice group has a number of interesting connections to Bill Clinton.
“They claim they're a non-profit, non partisan organization. But, its president is a recent donor to Hill-Pac, a big Hillary funding group. The executive director worked for Bill Clinton in his ‘92 campaign and the lawyer for the organization is the lawyer who defended Clinton during the impeachment crisis in the 90's,” said Kromm

However, local reprehensive of the Hillary Clinton campaign here in Raleigh said the campaign “has no connection to the organization conducting these robo-call … and has never accepted any funds from this organization."

.....

Meanwhile, the Attorney General says the investigation into the calls continues. Roy Cooper says there could be sanctions and fines imposed on the group as a result of the calls.

He said his office will also be looking at the company hired to make the calls, the contact lists they used, as well as how many people here in North Carolina were affected by the calls.
