are a trait of irrational partisan followers.

Can this lack of judgment and decency be overcome by common sense and judgment?

14. It's maybe a little ambiguous, but using common sense,
the initial interpretation makes more sense, because it would be like saying, in effect, "it doesn't matter whether we are winning or losing in Indiana, because Indiana doesn't matter." Also, considering that Indiana is traditionally a red state, again, the initial interpretation makes more sense. As to his comments about "white n****s", I can't honestly say that I can hear exactly what he is saying.

23. There are a few theories..

..maybe none of which are true, but here they are:

"Hoosier" comes from the slurred phrase "who's your father?"

Or the other explanation is that it was a slurred way of saying "Who's there?"

31. 'tis true
Frontier banter

This idea suggests the term was a greeting. When approaching a man's home in those early frontier days, you shouted from afar, "Hello, the cabin!" to avoid being shot. The inhabitants would then shout back "Who'sh 'ere?" (who's there). As it got slurred together over time, the country folk came to be called Hoosiers.

A variant of this story combines "Who's" and "your", such as in "Who'sh yer 'pa?". Additionally, the poet James Whitcomb Riley facetiously suggested that the fierce brawling that took place in Indiana involved enough ear biting that the expression "Whose ear?" was common enough to be notable.

27. What's your problem with my OP?
You're acting like there's something wrong with adding things like "as far as I know" and "I take him at his word" to the end of a statement!

That's funny because Clinton supporters have told me, repeatedly, that adding those phrases does not cast doubt on what the person is stating.

36. Indystar: "Video that slurs Hoosiers is a hoax" - includes comments from the two campaigns

(you may need to go to bugmenot.com for a username and password)

A video showing a longtime supporter of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton using slurs to describe Hoosiers spread through the Web like a virus Friday, triggering a firestorm of protest before the video was finally exposed as a hoax.

snip

On Friday, Kantor, who said he is "not officially involved at all" in Hillary Rodham Clinton's campaign, immediately denounced the footage as outrageous and false.

snip

Kevin Griffis, communications director for Barack Obama's campaign in Indiana, said the Illinois senator's campaign had nothing to do with the video. "We have no idea" who created it, he said. "We absolutely did not have any role in this. We have no idea where it's from."

Clinton on Friday told The (Lafayette) Journal & Courier that she, too, had no idea who was behind the video. "It's just something that is clearly unfortunate that people would go to all the time and trouble to make something up like that," she said. "And I assume nobody would believe such a thing because it's totally wrong."
