UPDATE: I'm converting the Kanter video now to increase the volume
Edited on Fri May-02-08 01:52 PM by redstate_democrat
to get a better listen. If it's bullshit I will have no problem reporting that it is. But if it is NOT

This is what I wake up to? Those people are shit, I tell ya.

EDITED TO ADD: Okay I increased the volume and Kantor did not say "those people are shit". At least from my observation. He said, "Those people are shitting". There was also no "white N**ger" reference either.

Someone is obviously trying to smear Obama with this. Let's not fall for it.

Pennebaker: Clip Doctoered

I just spoke to D.A. Pennebaker, the director of "The War Room," who said his film had been doctored to produce a widely-viewed YouTube clip.

In a clip from his film on the 1992 Clinton campaign, posted to YouTube today, Clinton advisor Mickey Kantor is -- according to subtitles -- seen referring to Indianans with an expletive and to his colleague George Stephanopolous with a racial slur.

"He does not say that. He does not say that," said Pennebaker, after viewing the clip.

He said the initial expletive referred to the anticipated reaction in the Bush White House to the fact that Ross Perot's polling numbers were holding strong.

"What he says is he’s surprised Perot’s numbers are holding," said Pennebaker in a brief phone interview. "He says they must be shi**ing in the White House."

The second expletive, he said, appeared to have been entirely fabricated, with new audio dubbed onto the original movie.

Pennebaker appeared surprised and amused by the video.

"A thousand people saw that film in theaters and didn't think" the second expletive had been used, he said. "It's very clearly understandable. It's not like it was in Bulgarian."

If you listen closely you will hear the toilet flushing a wet dream away......LMAO!

3. Any chance you can check a DVD copy of The War Room
I'm at work and the movie is at home or I'd do it.

It seems silly to be poking around with a youtube when the actual document is out there. I wonder if it is subtitled, I don't remember.

4. Do you have an actual DVD copy? If so, what do the film's subtitles say?
The films subtitles may shed some light on this.

Also: INteresting factoid...

Watch the clip, what do you think he said? When "The War Room" came out other folks interpreted Kantor to be impugning Indiana residents.

In The Washington Post's review of the film in 1993, critic Desson Howe referred to "a Mickey Kantor comment about the people of Indiana (when it looks as though Clinton's ahead in Dan Quayle's state)."

And a 1995 story in the Sydney Morning Herald said that "As for the good folk of Indiana, they are still recovering from the 1993 documentary War Room, which revealed the grim truth behind the Clinton election campaign. It showed Mr Kantor bursting in on election night to tell other campaign staffers that incredibly, Mr Clinton was doing well even in Republican Indiana. 'And those people are s---!' he declared breathlessly."

8. It is likely BS but what you need is source.
The DVD or VHS or whatever.

I work with audio, Injecting some BS into a video is not all that difficult in this day and age.

Better evidence is subtitle work and a multitude of people reporting the evidence.

11. Who is responsible for this new video?
There is lots of discussion about what it says but not where it came from.

13. Me too.
Working in narrative (ie fiction) film, I tweak audio all the time. It is very very easy to do. Just last week I was editing sound on a documentary where the picture editor had cut a clip off too early and sliced the audio in the middle of a word. No problem - I just lifted syllables from elsewhere in the soundtrack and blended them together to recreate the missing audio.

Also, most folks need to consider that the frame rate on a flash video is about half of the frame rate used on the original recording, and the audio is also compressed. Trying to draw conclusions about whispers from a youtube video is like trying to analyse a photocopy of a photograph.

14. Right so the best idea is for large numbers of people to view the video and compare results.
Just need more evidence because I would not want Clinton supporters posting fake videos as well.

17. Trying to smear OBAMA????
What a fucking joke. This was clearly Karl Rove pitting the two dems against eachother and people on this site fell for it hook, line and sinker. He's laughing his ass off right now and the lemming like behavior here.
