Enough posts exist about the YouTube fiasco with the offensive

It would be a good idea to refrain from posting any more, especially when we have some people who are more than willing to repost the words that are so offensive, and seem to gain some form of glee from doing so.

Discussion of this matter is warranted, but we don't need 655 threads on it, and we most certainly do not need the incident used as a "reason" to post that word anywhere in DU.

Enough is enough. It has become something that has taken on a life of it's own, and creating so many threads that say the same thing is just plain ridiculous.

Discuss it, but by all means, don't see the incident as an excuse to place said words all over DU...you not only demean yourselves, but DU as well.

Thank you for your understanding, and by keeping these threads to the bear minimum, we can discuss this as adults.

First, the matter of Rev. Wright has been a feature of national news and campaign coverage for months.

Second, there was no allegation of deliberate distortion of the video run of Rev. Wright's sermons, or about his recent remarks on P.B.S. and at the National Press club.

Third, and most important, there was no great press of people taking comment on Rev. Wright's remarks as opportunity to post racial slurs to the forum.

1). I think that hacking apart his sermons to splice together the most inflammatory language and then suggesting this represents the content of said sermons IS on par with doctoring.

2). There were numerous threads on DU highlighting Wright's claim that "Hillary has never been called a N-", which is the racial slur in question, I believe. I don't recall those threads being locked.

3). How can the impact of this on national news and campaign coverage be ascertained when discussion of it is discouraged? It's quite obvious that the MSM and campaigns take many of their cues from sites like this one.

EVERYTHING is taken out of context, if you consider the context to be large enough. But I don't know of any situation where Wright's words were presented as being the opposite of what he actually meant, unlike many Obama fans here yesterday who posted HALF a sentence Clinton spoke and presented it as her position, when in fact, her position was the opposite.

Selective editing is different from allegations that the sound track has been altered, or the transcription deliberately false. There may well be a lawsuit for slander arising out of this; it has at least been threatened.

My recollection seems to differ from yours regarding that quote in threads here, which is not a claim you are wrong, please be assured. It is our policy to remove that word, but not all instances come to our attention, and we cannot act against what we never see.

It will become obvious in fairly short order how large this is going loom in the news.

There are at least 2 threads here pointing that out, with links to stories on Fox and Indiana TV, one even has an online poll on the subject and the original, disputed video has been put back up on Youtube, plus ABC's blog has it back again as well as a story. It is definitely news. That being established, why would there be any limit on the number of threads on it when that has never been done on DU as far as I know with any other news story?

and some of those who posted right in this thread, will do anything to toss gas on the fires that burn.

For the record, I had spoken out against the Wright threads; for the record, I have consistently called for peace and discussion in GD-P; for the record, I have lost a great amount of respect for some that I have respected for years here on DU.

Here is a fact, a few threads are fine, one would be ideal. But everyone w/a bone to toss into
the fray feels they have to start their own thread. They did it, (and are still doing it it), with Wright, they are doing it here. If you all facts, the fact of the matter is, those who continue making mountains have nothing they can speak of in defense or to make their candidate more appealing, so what they do is tear each other apart until they feel they have accomplished some great and wonderful "justice".

Here's another fact, I have no dog in the show, I don't care who wins, I've said that a hundred times in the past, and to be honest, neither candidate is anything special in my view. They beat McCain hands down, but you'd not know that from what people read in GD-P.

Sure, this will be the week long horror, until someone dredges something up from Obama's past again, fed by the RW, photoshopped, cropped, sound bites out of context. Then it will start again w/HRC, same thing, just a different side.

Here's the point...some people live to destroy, others fall right into the trap. As I said in the OP, this deserves discussion, as does everything on DU that affects the candidates...but not every thread needs to be started on this particular subject...just as the Wright threads are disturbing, so are these.

Discuss...but how many threads link to the same YouTube shot?

And a final observation, both sides of this issue that can do little more than try to discredit the other are not doing a service to the eventual nominee. Fact is, you are serving whomever comes out of this on a silver platter to the GOP slime machine...which does not seem to have too much of an edge on our own slime machine.
