I Apologize for Jumping on the Kantor Story like the MSM did on Wright
Edited on Fri May-02-08 05:41 PM by futureliveshere
This is a sincere apology. I guess the anger and frustration at seeing the Wright videos playing day-in and day-out non-stop really got to me and when I saw this video I jumped at levelling the playing field. The post just took off and suddenly became this major dialogue which I also eagerly promoted. I didn't stop to think whether the video was doctored or not. But I definitely didn't attempt to post a video that I knew to be doctored in any manner. I honestly believed in the shameful acts of the Clinton campaign and there is the problem.

Upon deeper thought I realize that the real issue is not whether the video is true or not. The video might have been true and Kantor might have even said such a despicable thing, or not. But, the real issue is that while Obama is running a campaign that is looking to raise us beyond such narrow thrusts and jibes and is asking us to move beyond such 'gaffes' that seem to dog everybody. While he is exhorting us to find the best in us and fight a campaign based on REAL issues that matter to each and everyone of us, I looked instead to play the same gutter politics that I perceive the Hillary campaign to be playing.

I don't really hate Hillary and realize she will be better than McConfused any day. But the unfair handling of the Wright issue, the disclosure of the Blumenthal tactics really cause me to worry that Obama will be swiftboated by his democratic colleague.

The earlier post was an attempt to correct this perceived imbalance (in my mind) of the MSM coverage that has dogged the Obama campaign in the last one month. But in the end I realize the earlier post was more my display of my own insecurities and fears, that Obama might lose and that we will collectively lose this one golden opportunity of electing a candidate who says what he means and means what he says. Who tells us the truth even though we might not like to hear it. Who refuses to stoop to personal attacks and thus causes people like me to feel ashamed of our actions when we do so. I don't think Obama will lose this nomination in any way now that I am seeing him move beyond the Wright controversy. He has run a brilliant campaign and I look forward to the day he becomes President of the United States of America.

In the end, I needed to get this off my chest and I did so. I don't expect many people to read this. But for those who do, I hope you see the best in yourself too, the way Obama sees constantly inspires us to.

edited to add:
BTW, my thread was the one that got locked by the moderators. While I don't agree with their actions, I can understand where they come from. It is better to allow a self-modification w/o setting time limits on the thread. I would have updated my own post with the disclaimer.

2. Thanks. The biggest surprise was the way the video just took off.
I was frankly amazed and then a bit uneasy, then mortified, but there was nothing to be done about it.

Thanks for the kind words. :hi:

3. You should add this to your journal
That way if anyone tries to shove something in your face about being an Obama shill or something like that, you can always point them back to this. It's unfortunate that this has become such a battleground that you need to defend yourself against other democrats these days.

4. Hmm... good point.. just did that.
Thanks again. I think I will take a break from this infighting for a few days and see how we do in NC and IN.

Go Obama.

5. while I have a different view of both Hillary and Obama, I appreciate the sincerity and I know
how you feel.

I feel like, though Obama seems to magically keep himself at arms length from the dirty, his surrogates seem to do unbelievably dirty things, or so it seems to me, and it angers me to no end. I have reacted out of emotion as well and I have regretted that too.

6. That's great, but Wright is a very valid issue
For obvious reasons - the man and his church have held a good deal of influence in Obama's life - and they express extremely controversial views.

As far as Obama not using personal attacks, this is utterly false. Any scrutiny at all of Team Obama and the candidate himself reveals a constant assault on Clinton's character.

8. Not valid according to me, as there are bigger issues we need to discuss.
Moreover there is no stopping the guilt by association trip. EVERYONE of the candidates should be called out equally by the MSM. My anger was completely coming from my observation that Obama was being hauled over the coals while HRC and McC were traipsing along picking daisies.

9. BTW thats a nifty website. Now if we had one for HRC, Blumenthal & Co.
I guess the server space itself to host such a vast site would cause it to be prohibitively expensive.

:)

11. How much influence do you REALLY think he had
Or do you expect that if elected Obama is going to be looking for the HIV factories and rounding up white people into slavery? Will his SOTU address every year start with "Hello, and God DAAAAAAMMMMN America!"?

Come off it, its a convenient attack. Its no more relevant than this stupid video was, even if it wasn't fake, or partially fake, or whatever else people are arguing it is.

13. The reason I jumped on was because of that feeling.
I feel that the Obama campaign has been short-changed and vilified unnecessarily over the Wright issue. While the other 2 candidates have been given a free ride.

12. The point I am trying to make is that it doesn't matter.
ALL the candidates have guilt-by-association issues. We need to go beyond that and look to having a discussion on the REAL issues:

-healthcare
-education
-war against terror
-environment
-gas prices

etc etc etc. You see what I am trying to say.

15. I think voting on the "Kantor" thing (even if true) or on "Wright" is probematic
there are other, clearer ways to determine the better candidate. when you decide based on this kind of issue, you are either showing misplaced priorities (by choosing based on a more minor issue than on say, civil rights policy or policies on Israel) or you are showing ignorance of other issues because this is the only one you know.

(not you, the "proverbial" you).

21. Well, if you let it go within a day *and* apologized for doing so...
...I don't think it would be fair to compare you to the MSM on Wright.

I'm sorry I jumped on it at all, but am glad I saw it for a probable hoax within twenty minutes (?)--but am especially glad that I focused on the alleged perpetrator rather than trying to tar the whole Clinton campaign (or tea-bag her supporters).
