HRC: "Bill and I, between us, had 50 years of education but we could not get the coconut open."

http://www.ksl.com/?nid=157&sid=3219999

Forget about policy speeches and wooing superdelegates. For Hillary Rodham Clinton, Saturday morning was devoted to chick chat _ a panel discussion with a group of working moms on topics ranging from girl-on-girl violence to her daughter's early dating years.

"Chelsea was a teenager in White House, which meant that the Secret Service went on her dates," the Democratic presidential contender said on a panel hosted by the Web site momlogic.com. "A lot of her girlfriends' mothers loved it when they double dated because there was a guy with a gun in the front seat."

<snip>

One family night involved a coconut, Clinton said. "Chelsea said she had heard about coconuts, but had never seen one. So we went to a store and bought a coconut and took it home," Clinton recalled. "Bill and I, between us, had 50 years of education but we could not get the coconut open. We were throwing it on the driveway, we were beating it with a hammer. We were so embarrassed."

<snip>

At least one question appeared to puzzle the New York senator. "You've seen, Senator Clinton, all these reports of young girls becoming very aggressive," Fox asked. "Do you think these girls are becoming more violent? Are we raising aggressive women?"

then you feel better.

Now let me get this straight
Put the lime in the coconut, you drank 'em both up (3x)
Put the lime in the coconut, you called your doctor, woke him up, and said

Doctor, ain't there nothin' I can take, I said
Doctor, to relieve this bellyache, I said
Doctor, ain't there nothin' I can take, I said
Doctor, to relieve this bellyache

23. OMG...Chelsea used the coconut story as an example of HRC problem solving ability!
Um, yeah, some problem solver...the hammer didn't WORK did it????

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/17/opinion/17boylan.html

Toward the end of the event, though, someone asked, So what was it like, to grow up as the daughter of Bill and Hillary Clinton?

Well, she said, one day, when she was 6 and living in the governor’s mansion in Arkansas, Chelsea decided she’d like to have a coconut. So the Clintons went out and got one. When they got it home, though, the first family faced the traditional problem when it comes to coconuts: how do you open one up?

Chelsea allowed as how her father and she had gone outside, and thrown the coconut again and again onto the hard asphalt of the governor’s mansion’s driveway, hoping to make a dent. But the coconut, alas, refused to yield.

Finally, Hillary came outside with a hammer. The point being, Chelsea said, that her mother knows how to solve problems.

http://hypocrisy101.com/hillary-expereince-collecting-coconuts/#more-6

As a child Hillary’s parents took her on vacation to Guam and she learned how to collect coconuts from coconut trees.

This I believe will give her the final edge in garnering a win in Guam on May 3rd. Even though it’s a caucus and a small state; Guam is very important because it a battle ground in the general election.

21. Did they think to look in a cookbook ?
Each of the 4 NYT cookbooks and a general cookbook I have from the early 1970s - before Chelsea's birth have recipes for coconut "milk" and grated coconut - starting with a coconut. I bought the first coconut I saw in the grocery store - because it was cool and had no trouble openning it - or any subsequent coconuts - it is so obvious that the cookbooks don't even go in to much detail. Saying simply to hit it with a hammer over the sink. (One suggested stabbing it with an awl then hitting that with a hammer ) It was easy - Now cooking Peking Duck, on the other hand was challenging.

22. lots of serious talk also at this gathering:

Clinton was gingerly asked by one of the panelists, family therapist Shannon Fox, on how she had guided her family through "difficult times" _ a clear reference to her husband's affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky that led to his impeachment in 1998.

"When you are in a difficult situation, oftentimes you just want to withdraw and just shut yourself out. When you have to do it in front of the world, that's different," Clinton said, adding that she had relied on her religious faith and her friends to help her through the crisis.

At least one question appeared to puzzle the New York senator. "You've seen, Senator Clinton, all these reports of young girls becoming very aggressive," Fox asked. "Do you think these girls are becoming more violent? Are we raising aggressive women?"

"I don't know about that," Clinton said, before saying she recalled seeing stories about teenage girls videotaping themselves bullying other girls.

"What kind of lessons are they getting at home that they are so desirous of seeing themselves on the Internet attacking a fellow student?" Clinton asked.

38. Well, if I just want the milk, I puncture the eyes w/a hammer & a screwdriver.
If you want the meat, hit it on the "seam" w/a blunt, heavy kitchen implement (like a meat cleaver, tenderizer, etc) all the way around and it will eventually crack open.

It's rather instinctive.

Frequently. I also know the trick for getting all the meat out of the thing. Also, the less it swishes when you shake it, thebetter that meat will be. So many people buy a coconut for the little bit of milk and are left with wood pulp to eat.

most coconuts you buy at the grocery store come pre-scored. however assuming it wasn't pre-scored. You use a cork screw to puncture the eyes and pour out the milk.

Then with a sharp knife you score a line around the center of the coconut, and tap it with a hammer.
