Last minute Clinton ad: 'What has happened to Barack Obama?'
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/

(CNN) – Hoping the proposal to suspend the gas tax will resonate with working class voters in Indiana and North Carolina, the Clinton campaign launched a last-minute ad in those states Monday that sharply attacks rival Barack Obama for not supporting the measure.

"What has happened to Barack Obama?" an announcer states in the new 30 second spot, among the campaign's most bruising to date.

"He is attacking Hillary’s plan to give you a break on gas prices because he doesn’t have one," the ad's announcer also says.

The ad comes on the heels of a weekend marked by heated back-and-forth between both campaigns over the issue. Obama's campaign launched an ad Sunday that called Clinton's proposal to suspend the gas tax a "classic Washington gimmick" and argues that oil companies will keep the extra proceeds from the suspension of the gas tax and will not pass the savings onto drivers.

The Clinton campaign countered that Obama is siding with the oil companies over hard working voters increasingly pinched by the price of gas.

UPDATE: Barack Obama's campaign released a response ad Monday afternoon that charges Clinton with offering "More of the same old negative politics."

“A war that should never have been waged. An economy in turmoil. Record prices at the pump. America held hostage to foreign oil," the ad's announcer states.

“Her hometown newspaper says she's taking the low road - her attacks do nothing but harm," the announcer also says. “The same old Washington politics won't fix our problems. We need honest answers… And a president we can trust."

1. He's attacking the plan because it's fiscally irresponsible
and since it also amounts to buying votes, morally irresponsible as well.

10. just use google
if the first search doesn't work, try another. "200 economists gas tax nobel prize" (my first attempt) got me the right info in the top link. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=aTzCmqCNyLho&refer=home

It's not hard. People don't seem to realize that google does better with more search info.

6. This has almost universally been panned as a terrible, UNHELPFUL plan.
I'm not surprised to see Clinton try to turn it around on Obama. Unfortunately, this idea is SO bad, I'm sure anyone who's interested has already checked into how much they'd save- and found out the truth.

It obvious that polling trends are not favoring her in NC or Indiana so she will just have to start slinging mud..

12. "Break" on gas prices??
How is 18 cents a gallon a break after the prices have gone up about 20 cents every couple of weeks? (If not more.)

20. Actually, $30 will buy a gallon of milk a week for about two months.
You have no idea how important that is; and, if it is slightly more, maybe it will buy a loaf of bread a week. Perhaps some dried beans and rice. My God, do ya'll know how fucking insensitive you are to poor people?

26. Insensitive?
What a load of bull. I don't support a stupid, pandering economic policy and that makes me insensitive? Get off your high perch already and read what the economists (and just about anybody else who has a functioning brain) has said about the ludicrous idea.

16. it's like the Iraq war all over again
The same argument was made in the run up to the Iraq invasion, that having a "bold" plan was better than "doing nothing" which is all that opponents of the war were suggesting (according to the war's promoters). Once again, Hillary's campaign is counting on voters to be stupid and applying the propaganda and spin points to keep them less informed. "we may have a stupid idea, but our opponent has nothing".

25. Here's my idea of an ad right back at her
TITLE: Hillary Clinton thinks you're stupid.

Video: Potholes in the road. Fade to a tire flat. Fade to a mother standing along highway flagging down help with kids in van to fix flat. Fade to a line of unemployed people.

VO: Hillary Clinton has a plan that would give you half a tank of gas over three months while it lays off thousands of workers that would be fixing the roads you drive on.

Video: Scroll names of economists fast with words "careless..." "irresponsible" "political pandering" and photo of McCain and Hillary Clinton together.

VO: It's a plan that over 200 economists have stated is careless, irresponsible and political pandering the old Washington DC way.

Video: Show hand getting money from another person with oil dripping on hands.

VO: The only person she can find to support her plan is a Shell Oil lobbyist.

Video: Show Hillary in red truck in North Carolina rally.

VO: Hillary Clinton thinks you're stupid. Don't believe her shell game.
