It's easy to say that one's vote shouldn't count when it isn't your vote to be ignored. |
|
Think about it.
And think about what you are saying.

1. The only Michigan and Florida residents who agree with that... |
|
are Obama supporters.
They'll throw the vote out the window, if it benefits their candidate.

2. Please don't tell me my vote won't count, have a vote, then say "SURPRISE! IT COUNTS NOW!" |
|
That is rather unfair, don't you think? Do you think it is fair to change the rules as we go along?

28. Amen. I wonder how many voters in those states simply |
|
either declined to vote in the presidential portion and only voted on down ticket candidates or issues. I wonder how many just stayed home since they were told it didn't count.

3. Actually, I have no idea what you're saying |
|
what soft-baked notion are you advancing?
That votes should count from a primary where only one viable candidate appeared on the ballot, and only because that particular candidate wouldn't respect clearly laid out party rules?
Or that the votes should count from a primary held under these circumstances: where only one candidate campaigned despite being told by the party that candidates were not to campaign in that state? Where everyone who either voted in that "primary" or PARTICULARLY THOUGHT ABOUT VOTING AND CHOSE NOT TO VOTE did so under the clear direction that all votes would not count towards a delegate result?
Why don't you think about what you're saying.
Apparently, you admire the way banana republics get things done.
You can pick up your teeth to the left, bub.

7. My mother and her family fled from Soviet occupied Ukraine to live in this here democracy... |
|
...When there is a vote scheduled, I vote. I don't look at nagging technicalities, I don't look at obscure party rules, I go to the polling place and I vote. Knowing what my family had to go through to get to a country where free elections were a guarantee, I don't sit home on a day that I am eligible to vote. I'm sorry, that's not how I roll.
I'm sorry, but the voice of the voters is more important to me than any DNC rule scheduling when primaries are supposed to be held. If there be sanctions against the state party, fine. But not the total stripping of any meaning behind my lawfully exercised vote.
I live in Florida. I voted in the primary. Count my vote.

10. So you think straw polls and the WA primary should count too? |
|
You might want to do some research on how "lawful" your vote was. Party nominations are not the same as general elections.
Personally, I don't like changing the rules as we go along. I vote in online polls knowing that my vote won't count towards anything, and I voted in MI after I was told that my vote wouldn't count towards anything. Why do you want to trick me and make my vote count after telling me otherwise? Why do you want to change the rules as we go along?

21. "Nagging technicalities"- how disgusting |
|
I don't know what you didn't learn about how this here democracy works- but a primary where one candidate is on the ballot and one is not, and a vote held under explicit conditions where the results are stated to have no implications- these are not "nagging technicalities."
It is a shame you weren't taught any better. Your position that such things are "nagging technicalities" is a vile affront to democracy. It's repulsive.
Actually, this despicable brushing aside of something as important as the conditions under which all voters and potential voters operated under- this tells us everything we need to know about you.
Not good.

22. Order of primaries IS a nagging technicality |
|
As for the rest, I can only say for Michigan that the situation where one candidate was on the ballot and one was not was not a matter of fiat but of choice by the candidate. The rest--pledges, promises, etc.--are of little importance to me as I am not a part of either the Clinton or Obama campaign.
The ONLY reason that my Florida vote currently has no effect is due to an obscure DNC rule on the ordering of states' primaries, something that I had little to no input on. Why am I to get punished for simply exercising my vote? If the DNC wanted to punish somebody, they could punish the Florida Democratic Party. Instead, they chose to punish the voter.

5. What are you talking about? Whose vote is not being counted? |
|
I'm to the point as are many others that if the powers that be don't put a foot in someones backside and shut the chatter down I (almost) don't care who wins on either side.
Don't cheat, either go by the pre-approved rules or bow out. End.Of.Story.

8. No. Wrong. I was paying attention. |
|
I knew about the DNC's desire to strip the delegates from us, but I figured us being the Democratic party, we don't disenfranchise people, so an alternate sanction against the state party (one that doesn't involve the stripping of all delegates) would be enacted.
I guess I was wrong.
All I know was that there was an election which I was eligible to vote in, and I voted. And all I want is for my vote to count.

All this sudden false front of concern for the DNC rulebook is amusing.

12. It's a very touchy subject, I agree. |

MI and FL broke the rules, and it really sucks for the people of those states. It also could very well disenfranchise voters in November if those delegates are not seated.
So what do you do?

|
If Michigan votes for McLoon in the GE after 28 years of coproratist bullshit from Repukes and Repuke lites, then they deserve what they get.
And every last voter in Florida could vote for Obama, and they'll steal it anyway. The Bush Crime Family election theft apparatus didn't leave when Jeb did. Anyone who is depending on Florida for a win, is a damn fool.

In how many primary seasons do their votes matter? How many times is the nomination wrapped up before they get to cast their votes? That is not to say that their votes dont count. You have the right to vote in November in the general election. The party picks their nominee and uses individual states popular votes to determine how delegates should be porportioned in order to help them pick a nominee.
