My best friend, Nate, and his wife are coming over to visit me...They are huge Obama supporters...I changed the station from CNN to ESPN because I would rather discuss anything with them but this race...
I used to love politics...

It sounds like to me the point of the OP is that the primary race is starting to wear on him and he'd rather save a friendship than continue discussing the elections.

USAians are unusual in how personal they "take" political discussions. I believe this is partly because, in the presidential system of government, we get to actually directly vote for president and congresscritters. whereas in the parliamentary system you actually vote for the party and the MPs vote for the leader.
I am constantly amazed at how so many people here have a cult of personality when it comes to political discussions. They really take it personal... like an attack on their candidate is a personal attack on them! Arrested development.
