Unbelievable: McCampaign Blows It On Day One! |
|
Obama's only been the presumptive nominee for a few hours and already the McCainiacs stepped in several piles of flubs.
#1: They went after the rabbit. Classic political blunder. Obama was clearly egging them on with the "losing his bearing," but a disciplined candidate would never actually go after it. Now, inside of just hours, the McCain camp showed themselves to all the media (to repeat endlessly) that they are "touchy" about the age issue.
Boy, that's not gonna go away anytime soon. The narrative was already waiting for the media, the way they were waiting for Howard Dean to be "angry," and McCain just walked right into the campaign media groupthink.
I thought it was risky bringing out his Mom after she said that the GOP was going to have to "hold their nose" and vote for her son, but that takes some effort on the Dems to bring that back up. This one McCain did all by himself (with Obama's just-sly-by-an-edge delivery).
#2: He did it on an issue that is supposed to be a whisper campaign handled by surrogates. Namely, the cheap shots about Hamas. What a maroon. Now he is on record, YouTube even, using one of the most eye-rolling cheap shots in the 12 volume series on cheap shots.
McCain made several flubs while no one was paying attention, like completely mixing up the bad guys in a way that made him sound either senile (media groupthink) or Bush circa 2002-2003.
Everyone talks about "can Obama do this" or "can Obama do that" to beat McCain. I think the media should start asking if McCain can do "this or that" to beat Obama.

3. You know, it will be sad in a way, won't it |

I actually voted for McCain in the 2000 primary. (I live in NH and it's open and I had a baaaad feeling about the Bush guy.) All in all, he didn't seem so bad--the Maverick and all.
He used to be someone who, even if you didn't like him because of his party affiliation, you could kind of respect him--in that old school way that the boys on Capital Hill all sued to get together for drinks after duking it out on the Floor.
But now?
Pa-fucking-thetic.
Sold his soul for the nomination. And now the devil is asking his due.

I agree with you that McCain has destroyed his maverick image to get the nomination.
McCain's flip flops are just an attack ad waiting to happen. Just show all of the stuff he's said to suck up to the right wing base and all the stuff in line with Bush and then ask "how is John McCain still maverick when he's caved into his base's demands on almost every issue".
As for the topic, I agree it was stupid of him to say that about Hamas. Claims like that are much better left to the bloggers and youtubers to attack without fear of hurting their candidate.
I remember just a few days ago seeing a preview of an interview with McCain's wife (I forget what network) saying McCain would not run a negative campaign or throw negative attacks. I just rolled my eyes at that ridiculous claim.

8. But cable news fears YouTube. If something gets enough hits there, |
|
you can bet they'll be talking about it out of fear of seeming out of touch.

14. Obama is a brilliant campaigner |
|
and McCain's camp took the bait. McCain is too obtuse to realize that he's made his age a bigger deal by bringing up this 'losing his bearing' comment. Obama can easily say that McCain is losing his moral compass if McCain keeps up the whining, a double shot at McCain. Plus now everybody knows that his campaign is engaged in dirty tactics with his Hamas comments about Obama. I'm tempted to throw my Obama wins the Presidency party this weekend instead of waiting until November.
