The Prophetic Neil Young
In the May issue of Mojo - "Barack Obama is the next president of the United States. I think that would be good for Canada, I think it would be good for the US and really good for the world. Why? Because I think it would show that America really was a melting pot, that America really was the home of the free where anything can happen. If that's the propaganda that goes out, let's see something that supports it. I met him a couple of years ago at a Farm Aid concert in 2006, I think it was. I told him, 'You're going to be the next president of the US' and he looked at me and said, 'I'm too young', and laughed."

16. "Lookin' For A Leader"
Lookin’ for a leader
To bring our country home
Re-unite the red white and blue
Before it turns to stone
Lookin’ for somebody
Young enough to take it on
Clean up the corruption
And make the country strong
Walkin’ amoung our people
There’s someone who’s straight and strong
To lead us from desolation
And a broken world gone wrong
Someone walks amoung us
And I hope he hears the call
And maybe it’s a woman
Or a black man after all
Yeah maybe it’s Obama
But he thinks that he’s too young...

19. Obama is too young. So was Alexander. Lincoln was too Appalachian.
FDR was too elitist.

Kennedy was too Catholic.

Jefferson's hair was too red.

Great lyrics! Thank you.

Springsteen, Pearl Jam, REM, Dave Matthews Band, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, John Mellancamp, James Taylor, Dixie Chicks. If they do it again this year, I'll be there! It was one of the best nights of my life. I have the concert on tape and watch it all the time.

18. He has spent many years cowardly hopping the border between the US and Canada
When people choose to see Canada as "just a country with good and bad things about it" but demand silly and somewhat childish perfection out of the States, I draw the line.

Besides, Neil Young is a major jackass. I'm afraid I've had a close encounter. His attitude toward the US is only one problem I have with him. His attitude toward "regular folk" in his entourage is another.

59. No, I'd say storming my inbox with veiled threats about the roadies you know personally is drama ;)
Why is it that the biggest drama queens (who write gushing PM's about their deep love for Neil) call other people "drama queens"? Heard the accusation one too many times? I'm sure the roadies you mentioned (many of him no doubt read DU) would like to know that you're threatening to "expose" them.

"Ronnie", I think you have more problems than I can sort out. I don't have the patience. Embrace your major crush target ... I don't care.

I received your very sad PM. Yes, Neil is an eccentric ... and everyone who works with him is terrified of him.
Go ask Stephen Stills and Graham Nash.

If anyone needs meds, Young does. Lithium. And lots of it. After an industrial strength detox.

"Although Young sings frequently about U.S. legends and myths (Pocahontas, space stations, and the settlement of the American West), he remains a Canadian citizen and has never wanted to relinquish his Canadian citizenship.

54. You mean people who aren't born in the US but have lived there for
forty years, and have come from and occasionally return to a place where US culture and politics infests every waking moment whether you like it or not, versus people who are born in the US? So the latter group can complain all they want while the former should just shut up? Is that what you're saying?

47. Well, even if he is not a US citizen, he IS still an AMERICAN
Canada IS PART OF NORTH AMERICA. Mexican citizens are also AMERICANS. US citizens are sooooo arrogant.

NEIL HAS LIVED IN THE US FOR OVER 40 YEARS AND PAYS TAXES. HE IS MARRIED TO A US CITIZEN AND HIS CHILDREN ARE US CITIZENS.

I thought I had heard Neil mention that he became a US citizen, but apparently I misunderstood.

Below is the link that I had watched over a couple years ago, so I didn't remember correctly.

49. You're teasing me right?
North American is geographical area includes, among many, the countries of Canada, the United States, and sometimes Mexico depending on who you ask. There are geopolitical boundaries that separate the three counties and separate and different laws that govern each country.

If you are Canadian you cannot call yourself a Mexican or an American. And conversely if you are American you cannot call yourself a Mexican or a Canadian.

Neil Young is not a US citizen nor is he a Mexican citizen. He is a Canadian. There is nothing arrogant about saying that because it's a fact.

...And it makes no difference how long he has lived here, how much taxes he has paid here, and who he is married to, he is not a US citizen. That's just a fact and until you get your one world and everyone is a citizen of the world it's going to remain a fact.

Neil will be putting out a complete compilation of his work on BlueRay disks. They hold much more than DVDs. For 3 decades we have been waiting for a more complete compilation than Decade, including Neil's many unreleased songs. It is now finally coming.

Meanwhile, Hillary has Billy Joel on her side.
