i want the obama/hillary thing to drag on until the convention....here's why.....
as long as they continue to be civil to each other and only attack mcpain, we should hope for a long primary season for these reasons:

as long as they're both in the race, they ARE the news and mcpain is largely ignored. as long as they respect each other instead of dragging each other down we'll be ok. additionally, the more they both bust on mcpain, the only press he'll continue to get will be the exposing of his lies and his lame attempts at defending himself. to this i give a

also, as long as they're both in the race, we'll continue to see record new democratic voter registrations across the country since they both appeal to different groups. that will help us immensely not only in the presidential election but also in the house and senate races. to this i give two

barring a catastrophe, it's going to be obama. i have faith that hilly will unite the splintered democratic factions if she ends up having to bow out. though i don't think she'd be the ideal running mate for obama, if polls make it look like the two need to be on the same ticket then, godammit let's make it a more historic ticket than we could have imagined....an african american AND a woman!

so, DUers...obamanites and hillaryites....i say to you, please stop the bickering and support the dem nominee whomever it is. and let's look forward to and enjoy a long, drawn out race to the convention that will only benefit us if we play it right.

5. Hillary has shown zero evidence that she can keep it civil
So I think your post is unfortunately wishful thinking. Hillary wants to win and the only way she can do that is to destroy Obama.

7. Obama v. Hillary will die out as a news item, organically
Once the talking heads synthesize the fact that Obama has the nom locked up mathematically, they'll get out of Dem-horse-race mode.
If Hillary refuses to concede & takes it to the convention, they may cover it as a sideshow item but not much else.
I think. ;)

8. It's not just McCain that gets ignored, but other news events get buried even more by the MSM...
Edited on Tue May-13-08 01:37 PM by calipendence
The MSM is using this long primary to distract us from many other things happening... Impeachable offenses have been completely pushed into the corner, even though evidence is mounting that Bush, Cheney and others themselves were instrumentally involved in torture. We still have FISA bill trying to go through congress with telecomm immunity, etc.

THAT is why I'd wish this primary would get over. And all of these things that are happening now will disappear off the radar screen when McCain faces us in the fall, and make it that much harder to stick the penalties of him being Bush 3 on him if there are no fresh abhorrent events to remind the public of then that the MSM would in some cases be forced to report on without a divisive primary happening.

9. Also down ticket races
Donations will be divided and funneled to these two candidates as time goes own, in lieu of (or to the detriment) of the DSCC . We NEED to get focused on ONE message, a unified message, and a unified candidate that other down ticket candidates can use throughout the summer to draw upon and use. Also, it gives McCain far too much time to woo independent s( who may be distracted/disengaed from a long delegate fight). Finally, I see little reason to believe that we will "play this right" just based upon what's been said in the last week alone.

If we HAVE to have a "dream ticket" it'sbetter to get it soon after voting then to drag this thing onto the convention. IMO We cannot underestimate the effects that statements form both sides will have on identity politics , and those NEED time to heal, and simply reorganizing the order of the ticket, in and of itself may not get it done, especially if we do it with relatively less time left. Also on June 3rd, the primary season would be over so that impetus to register would be gone. So in my view there are fewer risks and possibly as much to gain in my view to end this one way or another after voting and THEN work on registration rather than having registration drives without the primary process to power them but WITH the increased potential of creating further acrimony. If obama get's the "magic number" should be the nominee period, because if we lose as a result of a convention fight (which may very well be seen as due to a breakdown in party leadership and unity), I think we may also lose a generation of voters along with it , we'll see but personally I don't want to risk it. Also since 1960,no major party has won after a convention fight (and in 1960 it was DAMN close, and we also had a candidate by the name of JFK). There could be other factors, that contribute to this but personally if I see 5 people enter a room and only one person walks out, barely I may not be likely to risk my life to go into it,even if more 'riches' were promised inside.

hog the limelight attacking on their dirty horrible methods. Plus the two of them going after McCain doesn't hurt either. If it is well planned and if HRC can keep from going negative, it could be a brilliant strategy.

11. I want Hillary to stay in too....
....but only for the laughs!

Did you catch SNL?
or Olberman last night?
or Jon Stewart?

I haven't laughed so long or so hard since Laugh-In .

The comedians are having a festival, and the Political Cartoons haven't been so hilarious in years.

Don't deny me my laughter!

Now that is funny!
Keep Running, Hillary, KEEP RUNNING!
I'm thinking about sending her a contribution just to keep her in this race.
