Tired of Democrats calling other Democrats misogynist?
Edited on Thu May-15-08 09:41 PM by LittleBlue
I'm getting so tired of this crap. I used to consider this kind of charge serious. Now I just reflexively roll my eyes when I see these charges.

Looking forward to an end of Clinton's campaign just to get this behind us. I really don't think Obama, Dean, Pelosi, Edwards, Kerry, NARAL, or Kennedy are sexist or are supporting sexists. Sexist is taking away a woman's right to control her own body because the Bible says so.

Anyone else glad for Clinton's campaign to end just so we are spared this stuff?

1. Can you please be specific?
Who, and when, called Edwards, or Pelosi, or Dean, or Obama, sexist? Or misogynist?

2. Like three posts down on GDP
"Dean and other top Democrats did nothing to discourage blatant sexist attacks, and, for that, they are paying a price with Clinton's female supporters."
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x5985695

"I will not miss the deafening, depressing silence of Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean or other leading Democrats, who to my knowledge (with the exception of Sen. Barbara Mikulski of Maryland) haven't publicly uttered a word of outrage at the unrelenting, sex-based hate that has been hurled at a former first lady and two-term senator from New York. Among those holding their tongues are hundreds of Democrats for whom Clinton has campaigned and raised millions of dollars. Don Imus endured more public ire from the political class when he insulted the Rutgers University women's basketball team.

Would the silence prevail if Obama's likeness were put on a tap-dancing doll that was sold at airports? Would the media figures who dole out precious face time to these politicians be such pals if they'd compared Obama with a character in a blaxploitation film? And how would crude references to Obama's sex organs play?

There are many reasons Clinton is losing the nomination contest, some having to do with her strategic mistakes, others with the groundswell for "change." But for all Clinton's political blemishes, the darker stain that has been exposed is the hatred of women that is accepted as a part of our culture. "

Won't bother with more. Just take a look yourself.

37. Someone has lost track.
My point is that virtually all the misogyny thrown at Hillary comes from the right wing.
Misplacing that anger on her primary opponent or others in the party isn't helpful.

By bringing up these attacks without the proper context, your legitimate outrage becomes diluted.

What would you have the party do? Hold a press conference denouncing the nutcracker, et. al? It would be counterproductive- giving a wider voice to the slurs than the authors could do themselves.

However, I have zero doubt that if asked about them they would be soundly condemned. As a matter of fact, the sheer prima facie lunacy of the nutcracker, C**T, Iron My Shirt assaults makes unprompted comment unnecessary from the party that supports women's choice and has as their House leader, a woman.

11. How do those Oh-so-amusing "nutcracker" toys qualify as
"calling her on her tactics or policies?" How does forming an anti Hillary group that forms the acronym C.U.N.T. qualify as "calling her on her tactics or policies?" How does comparing her to Glenn Close in "Fatal Attraction" qualify as "calling her on her tactics or policies?" How does describing her voice as "shrill," or like "fingernails on a blackboard" qualify as "callin her on her tactics or policies." How does yelling "Iron my shirt, Hillary" qualify as "calling her on her tactics or policies?"

13. They don't
however note the nutcracker and the organization were not put forth by Duers. In fact the organization was froma RWN,as I recall. The glen close thing was also out of line, but I don;t recall who did it. Obsessive/Compulsive behavior is not related to gender, however.
Shrill means "to utter or emit an acute piercing sound" per webster. I have heard men do this. I have also known people of both genders emit the fingernail n the blackboard, not because of frequency of their voice, but rather tone and tambre. I will admit the "Iron my shirt" was sexists, but have not heard that phrase connected with Hillary until your post.

Most criticism of Hillary is legitimate. Most criticusm of Obama is legitimate. To characterize either as predominantly sexists or racists is just silly.

> The glen close thing was also out of line, but I don;t recall who did it. Obsessive/Compulsive behavior is not related to gender, however.

The above is a complete and total non-sequitur. What are you driving at here?

>Shrill means "to utter or emit an acute piercing sound" per webster. I have heard men do this.

And yet "shrill" is not a descriptive typically used about men. It tends to be aimed at women.

Do you even understand how misogyny works?

> I have also known people of both genders emit the fingernail n the blackboard, not because of frequency of their voice, but rather tone and tambre. I will admit the "Iron my shirt" was sexists, but have not heard that phrase connected with Hillary until your post. Most criticism of Hillary is legitimate.

But the OP was not talking about "legitimate criticism" of Hillary Clinton. She was talking about a flood of overtly sexist "jokes," remarks and commentary aimed at Clinton. And she was quite specific about it.

Why are you pretending that the OP is equating any criticism of Clinton with misogyny?

14. To hear these people talk about it, they don't even believe sexism
exists much less do they see just why many of us have called them on it. They've even had references to physical harm against Hillary and caricatures of her burning at the stake. I mean, seriously, how can they claim that stuff is NOT sexist?

Now there is a thread that laments the fact that she cannot be kept out of the VP slot. They want John Edwards or any other man in the world to have the Veep position but not the person who earned it, because she's female. They would never belittle a man that way after he fought and earned the position. It's sexism, pure and simple.

28. How is it that simple?
I see many people suggesting Sebelius or Napolitano and many people were either Edwards fans or Hillary haters from the beginning.

And how does somebody earn the VEEP spot? Mondale barely beat Gary Hart in 1984 and did not pick him for Veep. Ford barely beat Reagan in 1976 and did not pick him for veep. Jesse Jackson ran a strong campaign in 1988 and was not picked for veep.

40. Nobody *earns* the VP slot that way
Nominees have many reasons and make all sorts of calculations in choosing a running mate. That choice does not have to be the next to last standing candidate in the primary race. If it's women you're worrying about, there are several who have been promoted by DUers as Obama's VP, so your point in your second paragraph makes no sense. In the end, Obama will choose who he chooses for his own reasons, just as all nominees have done in modern times. That might or might not be Hillary Clinton.

Edited on Sun May-18-08 10:03 PM by TLM

Criticizing her, disagreeing with her, questioning her claims, all these are example of blatant sexist hate for all women everywhere.

Why even asking Hillary to demean herself by engaging in these primaries at all when the office already belongs to her as a birthright, is tantamount to a brutal gangrape. When will the sexist pigs who support anybody other than hillary, realize that being president is her right. So not voting for her deprives her of her rights.

Anybody daring to question her entitlement to the whitehouse is basically saying they support the systematic physical abuse of women.

You are absoutly right.
