About Barack Obama's supposed "cult" |
|
From the online version of Webster's dictionary: Cult: 5 a: great devotion to a person, idea, object, movement, or work (as a film or book); especially : such devotion regarded as a literary or intellectual fad b: the object of such devotion c: a usually small group of people characterized by such devotion
Note "c".
"a usually small group of people characterized by such devotion"
1.5 million donors isn't a cult. To paraphrase James Carville, it's a political party. I'll even go further and say it's a movement.
Millions of votes and donors and winning the presidential nomination of a major political party doesn't constitute the leader of a cult.
It constitutes the next President of the United States of America.

3. It's especially not a "cult" if its purported "messiah" |
|
--persists in telling his followers that nothing is going to change unless they stay organizer or involved.

Cult leaders aren't supposed to encourage their followers to actually think, right?

The cool cultists collect potato chips that look like him. You act as if you have never even sifted through his garbage or anything.

11. Not to nitpick, but in the PRC, Mao had a personality cult of tens of millions. |
|
Call it what you will, that was a cult. I don't think size matters. Mentallity does. That being said, I don't view the Obama movement as a cult, though certain participants are borderline nuts.
