Huckabee makes a joke about someone aiming a gun at Obama! |
|
It happened at an NRA get together. The crazed right-wingers want to take him out by any means necessary, don't they?? Huckabee was a pastor at one time I believe. WWJD Mike? I don't believe He would make jokes about murdering someone. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/05/16/huckabee-talks-about-some_n_102178.html

Just goes to show, never trust a republican. Who else would make a joke about pointing a gun at a presidential candidate?
Only the members of the war-party of hate and racial/class division.:puke:

3. It really doesn't even qualify as a joke |
|
No punch line, no nothing. It's all about how if somebody shot a gun at Obama, he would duck. Like Huckabee wouldn't, like he would be all superheroic and catch it in his teeth or something. He's such a moron, his "quick wit" produced this gem from the association of pandering and partisanship. And it is freakin' ugly.
Absolutely despicable.

Let's be serious... the guy misspoke and made a thoroughly dopey joke. He has apologized and I am sure he is more embarrassed than we can imagine- it was a really lame and un-funny joke.
Jumping on these types of things and becoming full of righteous indignation and horrified outrage does no one any good. When we engage in these behaviors we alienate reasonable people and encourage that the same tactics be used against us.
Truthfully, we minimize only ourselves with this kind of thing... let's be bigger than this:)

and this kind of statement cannot, under any circumstances, be excused as a "lame and unfunny joke". Why would that thought even being going through his head? It's beyond the pale....and frightening.

I guess I can look back on my own life and remember sooo many times when I have said and done things that were moronic. I didn't mean them to be insulting or unkind or whatever... but they came across that way. In those situations I am thankful when I am treated with grace and kindness, the time is taken to look at my behavior or words through the lens of who I am as a person, when they forgive and forget and move on. The person I have offended could choose to dig in, be offended, maybe tell everyone how insensitive I have been... that is their right. Choosing instead to act with grace reflects on their own maturity and character and honestly, benefits themselves in the end.

9. Huckabee knew exactly what he was saying and the meaning of what he said |
|
....and I wouldn't be at all surprised that the whole thing was staged and planned by Huckabee's handlers.
The fact that it flopped as a joke and failed to get more laughs, because it did get some, only tells me that GOP humor is tasteless and nauseating no matter the what situation it is used in, except in their small minded circles.

Everybody, take another look at the video of Huckabee's remark if you get the chance. When that crash occurs, Huckabee's offensive comment comes quickly---way too quickly. No time whatsoever for him to think of a spontaneous comeback. It was a set-up, pure and simple.
Even better, look at Huckabee's face when all the remark gets is some subdued, nervous laughter from the NRA crowd. His facial expression says "Sweet Jesus, if that's all I get from the NRA on my big line, I am well and truly fucked." I bet he started formulating his apology before he even left the stage.....

17. I'm inclined to give this a pass. |
|
For two reasons.
1. I've watched the comments. They were clearly unplanned and off the cuff reaction to an unexpected interruption in his speech and an attempt to make a joke that just went wrong. I don't think he would have gone there at all if he wasn't standing in front of the NRA and had guns on his mind. I think his mouth just took off before his brain could check in with a "woah, don't put those two things together!"
2. Huckabee flat out refused to play along with the pastorbating, and explicitly defended Obama... in perfectly clear and unambiguous terms... when asked about it. That earns him some slack in my book.
