Obama, back to Iowa

Mike Allen reports:

The schedule still says 'TBA.' But barring a last-minute change, Senator Obama plans to be in IOWA on Tuesday night when he clinches a majority of available pledged delegates. This is a red state he's hoping to turn blue, so the intended message is that he's getting to work on the general - NOT taking a victory lap. Political Geographer Jonathan Martin says the Hawkeye State appears to be Obama's BEST chance to flip a state that went for President Bush last time. In 2004, Iowa went Bush 50, Kerry 49. In 2000, it went Gore 49, Bush 48, Nader 2.

Iowa does feel like a long time ago.

5. Iowa will be a perfect place to kick it over 2025!
The undecideds there are currently polled at 14% (Rasmussen 5/13).

Only five states are currently polling with higher undecideds:
North Dakota - 18%
Arizona (!) - 15%
Ohio - 15%
Pennsylvania - 15%
South Dakota - 15%

Flipping Iowa is important.

:hi:

Apparently, those who know McSame best are STILL not convinced he's the man.

Bwahahahah...

7. Yes! And that poll was taken only a couple weeks ago
on 4/27 (ASU). Obama is down 9, with 15% undecided. There "may" be an outside chance that McCain's Arizona could be turnabout for Gore's Tennessee in 2000.

I would be thrilled!

8. I know this may sound divisive, but once Obama clinches, we progressive Obamicans need to ...
make our voices heard to get a REALLY strong VP candidate.

Dick Morris is not exactly my favorite or second favorite or even millionth favorite American, but his analysis of the VP spot is quite cogent, at least the candidacy part:

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2008/05/no_veep_slot_for_hillary.html

I would say that Obama's BEST bet politically is a woman (as there will be many disappointed women voters, and others energized in the general by a popular female on the ticket) who is NOT Hillary, and who never supported the Iraq War Resolution (something Obama has repeatedly and cogently argued puts other Democrats in a difficult position against McCain). Of these, Boxer, Stabenow and Sebelius all have really special strength. Napolitano -- strong but don't know what her position was on IWR back when.

Among men there is a lot of talk about Strickland, Schweitzer, Webb -- but I say NOT CLARK (or anyone especially like him).

At any rate, getting our voices heard on this issue, starting around, say, Weds May 21 (+ maybe a few days for a breather), is important and could make the difference of not ending up with ... President McCain.

9. This is the PERFECT place for him to be! The great people in Iowa
are the ones that started this ball rolling for him! :) They spent time with him and got to know him. Wonderful. I can't wait until Tuesday.

10. Since when is Iowa a "red" state?
Mike Allen, as usual, has his head up his ass.
