Hillary Clinton Sits Through Sermon About Adultery
Edited on Sun May-18-08 02:42 PM by RamboLiberal
ABC News' Eloise Harper Reports: When things couldn't be looking worse for Sen. Hillary Clinton's bid for the presidency in 2008, as her rival Barack Obama closes in on gaining enough delegates to secure the nomination, the former first lady attended a church service in Bowling Green, Ky., Sunday featuring a sermon about lust and adultery.

The hour-long sermon focused on the sin of committing adultery -– as outlined in Mathew 5:27-32.

Clinton, D-N.Y., has often said her faith pulled her through the difficult time when her husband, former President Bill Clinton, had an affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky.

Paul Fryman of the State Street United Methodist Church asked the congregation, "How is your commitment level in your marriage this morning?’

He spoke about lust and the sin of cheating on your partner. Clinton looked straight ahead as the man spoke about the theme of the sermon, which was: "Come Up Higher When the Devil Whispers Over Your Shoulder."

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/05/clinton-sits-th.html

Ouch - that had to be a bit uncomfortable. I feel bad for her on this one. Wonder if the minister took advantage of the situation or this was the sermon he had already planned. If the latter why didn't her people vet this first?

Faith doesn't bend. So she may have been uncomfortable. That is what Iwant my pastor to do. If you're comfortable, you don't change and improve.
Kudos to the Rev!

85. She wasn't the one who commited the sin, she was the one who was victimized
it would be like blaming a rape victim for feeling uncomfortable while being forced to watch a documentary on rape. Hillary did nothing wrong. She didn't deserve to feel uncomfortable for what Bill did.

That bugs me....

She could have gotten a divorce from him on day one.
There is no way that goclark would stay married to a husband that cheated on me IN MY HOUSE!

No way!

She decided to stay, that's great.

But she needs to understand, as I know she does, that she had a choice to leave him and take her darling daughter and start a brand new life with a man that would not destroy her self esteem in this manner.

IMO, that is one of the big differences in her personality ~ she is bitter from the marriage and he still controls her.

Their marriage is a sham.

I doubt this was contemporaneous just for the purpose of dissing Hillary. Wonder if her showing up was planned well in advance or a last minute thing.

I just think it's bad timing and bad luck for her that it worked out this way. And in the big picture of the campaign, as unimportant as whether or not she was wearing her flag pin.

know that its a "sin" to cheat on your spouse. Isn't that sort of Christianity 101? Totally unnecessary.

Who knows, maybe it was planned beforehand and she just showed up unannounced, but it seems impossible given the security clearances that probably took place before she arrived.

Poor Hillary. This part of her life was NONE of our business.

The sermon was not about 'cheating on your spouse.'

Matthew 25:27-28 (KJV)
"Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart."

55. Sermons about sin are hogwash anyway
Maybe she wasn't even paying any attention and the other congregants were lost in their own fantasies as well.

57. and Obama lies about Social Security privatization
Lying to seniors about his own privatization plan that will impoverish them in the years to come is a far greater sin and lapse in judgement.

Who gives a crap about a sermon on adultery when candidates are trying to steal the economic futures of millions of Americans?

That's rough.

65. Speechless.....
I am speechless that a pastor of all people would do this. He had to have known she was going to be there. I have BTDT with the whole unfaithful hubby thing, and I can't imagine how it would feel to have such a sermon directed at me- and certainly it was directed at her. I can't imagine having to sit there calmly, while every eye and several cameras were focused on me looking for any glint of pain or discomfort. sheeeesh, what a jerk.

Hillary... this hug's for you

67. I'm sure she's sat through other sermons on adultery in the last 10 years.
I don't see this as anything more than drumming up a story where there really is none.

Her husband cheated on her. Statistics show that a majority of spouses will either cheat or be cheated on at least once in their marriage. This is no more than a dog bites man story using a famous person.

72. This isn't the first time a Pastor has taken a golden opportunity to slam a Dem
Think Wright's display of madness several weeks ago.

They both went for the jugular. The only question is, why?

77. I'm sure his sermon was for his members, and, did he even know she was coming.
My son-in-law is the pastor of a very large church and has to deal with infidelity, among other life problems, a lot. Man, can he break it down, too. He, also, always plans his sermons in advance.

78. I can barely stomach Hillary at this point but in all fairness she has no reason to be ashamed.
And I seriously doubt she was alone in that church with regard to being married to an unfaithful spouse.
