Is Rachel Maddow as Progressive as Randi Rhodes? |
|
I was such a big Randi Rhodes fan and was pissed when Air America let her go. I've never listened to Rachel Maddow on the radio, so I don't know how much different she is than Randi. Is she as liberal as Randi (which I like)? Is she more moderate? I would like to know...

2. She is pretty liberal but given she is pursuing a teevee job, as in her own show |
|
on MSNBC, she has to be careful not to fully wear it on her sleeve
I like her as well, but her style is very different than Randhi's who I still listen to on Nova M

18. I disagree, I think Keith has proven that MSNBC will let you have your niche |
|
Edited on Tue May-20-08 05:46 AM by shadowknows69
As long as you're bringing the greenbacks in. If Keith wasn't shut down after his first 10 special comments I think there's room for Rachel, as is. I'd watch.

Randi drives me crazy. Rachael is more "professional" imho
Plus she has a PhD and is smart and well informed. Not much slips past her.
I'd LOVE for her to get her own show.
(Should have given her the one they gave David Gregory.)

For getting the best overnight rating that Countdown has ever gotten. That says something good about Rachel AND Keith, I think.

5. I don't know, but I like her a hell of alot more. |
|
She's different from Randi in that she's not a screamer or a blow hard. She's alot more calm and thoughtful overall. I don't know whether she could be described as more or less liberal, but I have the sense that she would do more thinking and weighing of sides before coming to a position, rather than the knee jerk way I feel Randi probably does it.
JMHO.

8. I MISS KENT JONES.... NOW! |
|
I am from way back in the day of morning sedition (may it rest in peace) and LOVED that show! I used to listen to unfiltered when it was pretty much just Maddow and Winstead. I was NOT happy when Liz was dumped and felt that Rachel could not carry the show herself. But I was pleasantly surprised. Kent was a HUGE HUUUUUUGE (Steph Miller now lol) help and I miss him greatly on the airwaves (as does Rachel, who has let that be well known). Kent was a great balance to Rachel's AMAZING political analysis! (A REAL Doctor of poly sci!!!)
I like what Randy has to say, but omfg my poor ears!!!!!
I have tried to listen to Randy Rhodes for years and I have a hard time doing it. She's so vitriolic, while I agree with her , sometimes it's her method that puts me off. Reading what she says, I totally agree with her, but it's how she says it live that gets me sometimes. I was 5 kinds of pissed off at AAR when all this bullshit went down. It's like the greens are TRYING to KILL AAR!!!!! They let Mark Marron go, they killed off the AAR news room, they have lost ALL traces of humor - which honestly i the only way I can handle news some times is with my "morning liberal confession".
AAR seems to eb dying. I'm greatful for nova M and I SWEAR I'll buy a subscription soon... literally I keep forgetting.
I'm also glad that RM is on MSNBC. I'll hate to loose her on the radio, but since AAR changed where they store their daily shows I haven't been able to podcast her...

Both are progressive and strong. I take it your local station must have replaced Randi with Rachel? We still have Randi and Rachel here.
I was stoked when they brought Rachel to our local station some while back. I happen to enjoy Rachel's style better, at least on the radio. TV time is a whole different beast. I recommend giving Rachel a try. Do it on the internet, if you are picketing the time slot.

|
She is really quite brilliant. She never screams into the microphone. I do like Randi too and I still listen to her on XM radio. But if I had to choose, Rachel is by far the better of the two. Randi can get a bit too mean spirited and I feel like that does not get us anywhere.

I don't go out of my way to listen to her. But I catch her every once in a while in the car. Rachel is becoming a rising star at MSNBC and NBC. I was really happy to see her this morning on The Today Show. I really have to admire someone with her educational background also.

She is a PhD and a Rhodes scholar. If you like Randi for her loud rants, then Rachel may not be your cup of tea, but if you enjoy watching a woman provide the mouth breathers on the MSNBC panels with total verbal smack downs, and they don't even understand what just happened to them, then Rachel is your lass. I absolutely love her. :hi:

I have a doctorate in political science but I most amazed at her depth of knowledge, intelligence and historical references.
You can't go wrong with Rach. Listen to her. She, Thom Hartman and Sam Seder are the only hosts keeping me subscribed to Air America.

She's just calmer in making her points. As far as style and everything else goes, Rachel runs circles around all of them. Especially on MSNBC, her points are always right on the money, well thought out, and never in a ranting way. She is respectful while she throws the pundits on the mat, like Joe S., with a smile on her face. I don't know who could not absolutely admire her for her brilliance, principles, and style, except for Bill O. and his Fox family. I suspect she will be offered her own show soon. If MSNBC has half a brain, they will give her that weirdo David Gregory's time slot. :D

31. Rachel is simply the best ... |
|
and most intelligent progressive commentator/journalist I'm aware of. She's always on issue, defining and clarifying progressive issues in face of incessant right-wing bloviators.
I listen to her over the internet. I don't watch TV. Recently I was off internet for a couple weeks, visiting family, and the only "news" was via an always-on TV with CNN and etc. Home again I raced to the PC to stream Rachel. My lord, is she bright and beautiful. O8)
