North Carolina, 24 Weeks to Election Day: McCain Defeats Obama, But Clinton Defeats McCain: In a vote for president today, 05/20/08, 24 weeks until election day, Republican John McCain defeats Democrat Barack Obama, according to this exclusive WTVD-TV news poll conducted by SurveyUSA. Today, it's McCain 51%, Obama 43%. But, if Hillary Clinton is the Democratic nominee, Clinton defeats McCain. With Obama on the ballot, the Republicans carry the state, 51% to 43%. With Clinton on the ballot, the Democrats carry the state, 49% to 43%. Against Obama, among men, McCain leads by 14 points; among women, McCain leads by 1. Obama wins the youngest voters by 10 points; McCain wins voters 35+. McCain takes 63% of the white vote; Obama takes 89% of the black vote. 28% of Democrats cross over to vote for McCain. Against Clinton, among men, McCain leads Clinton by 10 points; among women, Clinton leads McCain by 19 -- a 29 point gender gap. Clinton leads among voters under 65; McCain leads among those 65+. 17% of Democrats cross over to vote for McCain.

Filtering: SurveyUSA interviewed 1,000 North Carolina adults 05/17/08 - 05/19/08. Of them, 866 were registered to vote; of them, 713 were determined by SurveyUSA to be likely to vote in the 11/04/08 general election. North Carolina has 15 Electoral College votes. Republicans carried the state by 12 points in 2004.

1. The fact that only 713 were likely to vote kinda skews the statistics.

36. Lowballs the youth vote
since they may not have voted before and are therefore not considered a likely voter.

Why bother have elections?
Why don't we just take a poll of 1000 people in June and decide the nominee that way. It be much cheaper.

as they did in their polling during the NC primary.

17. one poll in one state means zip
and your thread title is a sad little lie. SUSA does not say hilly is the dem nominee.

Completely pathetic. I could show you polls in states like CO where Obama beats McCaine and hilly loses to him. Or NM. Obama would beat Clinton in CA if the primary were held today, and he whoops her in every national poll.

She's toast, indie, crispy toast.

OP claimed that she would beat McCain in NC.

No way. But Obama probably could (though it would be close enough that I daren't say he 'would').

33. From fivethirtyeight:
"I would not pay especially much attention to the SurveyUSA poll showing her ahead by 6 in North Carolina. I am not saying it is an 'outlier'; I agree with Charles Franklin's philosophy that there is no such thing as an outlier. But this is the whole point of taking a weighted average of polls, and other polling in North Carolina has not shown her especially competitive."

These are results of poll averages and much better than individual polls and......they are updated daily. Good bookmark.
