Shouldn't Hillary Start Vetting VPs and Planning for the GE?
Edited on Wed May-21-08 07:07 PM by Median Democrat
I think Hillary is doing a pretty convincing job of showing how committed she is to staying in the race by changing her plans to appear in Florida in response to Obama's appearance. Also, Hillary is continuing to campaign in the remaining states. However, if Hillary really wants to make clear that she wants to stay in the race, shouldn't Hillary:

1. Start going through the motions of vetting VP candidates, as well as having surrogates talk up the notion of how they are reaching out to Barrack Obama as a VP candidate?

2. Demand that she be involved in any discussions about having her representatives participate in DNC general election planning, rather than conceding it Barrack Obama?

3. Graciously congratulate Barrack Obama for running a hard race, and thank him advance for the support of his supporters for her Presidency?

The "reasonable" approach is that the Hillary will look for a "graceful" exit, rather than fight it out to the convention. However, as diverse a group as Rush Limbaugh and Stephanie Miller have said that they belief that Hillary will really continue to fight all the way to the convention. Imagine that? The left and right wing agreeing that Hillary will take it all the way to the convention.

So, under the Operation Chaos scenario, Hillary continues the fight into August, and perhaps by then with Hillary and McCain ripping into him, Barrack's campaign will cave prior to August with Hillary able to grab the nomination in August?

It may just be doable, but Hillary needs to go through the motions of preparing for the General Election. Yes, if she doesn't get the nomination, this may ultimately bleed the Democratic party's ability to take on McCain, but if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.

Plus, after eight years of Bush, how bad could McCain be? At worst, we are only talking just 2 Supreme Court justices, and perhaps a war in Iran, which is less than the 9/11 attack and 2 wars under Bush.

5. C'mon, This Is Partly Satire, But You Have To Agree . . .

The fact that Rachel Maddow and Rush Limbaugh are in agreement that Hillary Clinton will take it all the way into August is pretty remarkable.

My take is that it is only 50/50. Does Hillary really have the ability to back down at this point? In other words, is this Hillary's last shot at the Presidency? I think so. So, I can understand that Hillary is going to go for broke, and throw the Hail Mary, which is her right to do so.

I think that asking the changing the rules in the middle of the game regardng MI and FL, and asking Superdelegates to reverse the primary results is incredibly un-democratic, and that we should just avoid the expense and hassle of a primary system if we are just going to let the party elders pick the nominee, but that is just my opinion.

We have this system, and Hillary has every right to pursue her rights under that system.

They deserve each other, a whore monger husband who lies under oath, and a nominee who doesn't respect the rules of the Democratic party

9. Any Hillary Supporters Have A Take?
Should Hillary start vetting Vice-Presidents, and preparing for the General Election?

In other words, its one thing for Hillary to say that she is going to win the nomination. Its another thing to back up the talk with action. After all, Barack Obama is also revisiting states whose primaries are completed in preparation for the General Election. Shouldn't Hillary start visiting battleground states like Ohio?

12. I agree with the Leiberman Solution.
We know of course that Bill is the one that's behind ALL of this. Hillary has backed his play all her adult life and now is kind of a Renfield to Bill's 'Dracul the Power Vampire'
