Could this be a coincidence? re: electoral college/Dean/Hillary
I read this piece from an anonymous reader at TalkingPointsMemo suggesting that Hillary was still in the race because she's become a crusader against "representational democratic" processes like the electoral college and is now crusading for "direct democracy" processes of the "popular vote" carrying the message of "let every person's vote count."
The link is here
http://talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/196523.php

here's an excerpt:
"After the 2000 election, she called for the abolition of the electoral college. "I believe strongly," she said, "that in a democracy, we should respect the will of the people." She argued then that "the total votes cast for a person running for president in our country should
determine the outcome." Sound familiar?"

Then I read an article in Editor&Publisher about Howard Dean calling for an end to the Electoral College that was a small snippet of an article about the upcoming issue of Time Magazine. Here's the snippet:
"Meanwhile, in an interview, Democratic Party boss Howard Dean calls for the end of the electoral college: "It’s unrepresentative of where the American people are. It was fine for the days of the Pony Express, but it’s not necessary to avoid a popular vote on Presidents now.”"

How likely is it that these two pieces should show up on TPM's front page on the same day? What do you think is going on?

2. I wouldn't worry
You can't go to a popular vote metric now after the race has been completed.
