The BIGGER problem with Clinton's RFK analogy
Edited on Sat May-24-08 07:56 PM by prolesunited
I know the word assassination has pressed a lot of buttons, but I think we really should be looking further into history and what that episode taught us.

"The convention achieved notoriety because of rioting between protesters and police, and the generally chaotic atmosphere of the event....
The Democrats eventually nominated Humphrey, who went on to lose the election to Richard M. Nixon. The confusion of the convention, and the unhappiness of many liberals with the outcome, led the Democrats to begin reforms of their nominating process, increasing the role of primaries and decreasing the power of party delegates in the selection process." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1968_Democratic_National_Convention

So, do we really want a repeat of the '68 convention? Riots in the street if the anti-war Dem is defeated at the convention and the end result is that the Dems lose the election after middle America watches this spectacle unfold on TV. Those images made people afraid to put control of the country in Democrats' hands. How else would you explain Nixon's victory?

How many people needlessly died in Vietnam as result until we finally did withdraw? How many lives could have been saved if McCarthy was seated without incident and went on to win the GE and end the war?

So, Hillary and your supporters, if we learned anything from the 1968 election it is that it is disastrous to our party, our country and U.S. troops if we take this fight to the convention.

5. Something that I really think needs to be raised
repeatedly. Somebody should remind her and ask her how that's a "winning" strategy.

3. And 1980, and 1984...
In the days of the daily paper as the main source of information, that is one thing.

In the information age of instant information, it is political suicide.

7. It was the OFFICIAL verdict by the Walker Commission that Chicago 1968 =
"a police riot".
