Zell Miller and the DNC Bylaws (He's toast)
DNC Bylaws Article One:

Section 5. Resignation or Removal of Members.

(a) A member of the Democratic National Committee may resign by written notice to the Chairperson of the National Committee, and such resignation shall be effective immediately.

(b) After notice and opportunity for public hearing and upon grounds found by the National Committee to constitute good and sufficient cause, the National Committee may remove a member by
two-thirds vote of the National Committee.

(c) Failure of any member of the National Committee to declare affirmatively his or her support for the Democratic Presidential and Vice Presidential nominees within thirty (30) days after the adjournment of the National Convention shall constitute good and sufficient cause for removal.

So how many days has it been since the convention?

9. I like your logic.
If he can be gotten rid of, then he has no place to go except to the GOP. Let him be a drain on their resourses and not ours. As I said in another forum, no one's going to remember Zell; they'll only remember that a Democrat was at the Repuke convention.

Cast him out and we show unity; keep him and it will be portrayed as a "division within the party."

14. Yes and no
I do believe Zell's term has a little way to go before he finally retires. During that time, he will count as a Democrat, even if he doesn't vote that way. If there's only a tiny Dem majority in the Senate, his worthless arse will help insure powerful committee chairs go to Democrats.

Don't be too hard on poor dumb Zell. He's just clinging to the southern Democratic Party of the Reconstruction era, when no self repecting southern male would ever vote for the party of Lincoln, not even if the Democrats ran Lucifer, himself. Old Zell has decided Lucifer in the form of Bush is a great guy, but not great enough to make him desert his most closely held southern tradition of being a lifelong Democrat.

It's weird, but it's how those old boys think.

4. I doubt Miller is a member of the committee.
I doubt the DNC can kick anyone out of the party. I could be wrong, but I think it's between Zell, the Georgia state dept., and Zell's alleged conscience. (Unless any office holder is automatically a member of the committee?)

8. We should take the bait?
Voters don't give a rats ass about what party Zell Miller belongs to.

The strategy is to use Zell to get you all riled up and distracted from staying on message. If the DNC and the Kerry campaign follow your lead, then the repukes have won.

As Bill said, strength and wisdom are not mutually exclusive qualities. It's all about choosing your battles.

15. No need to kick Zell out of the party. No one would care anyway
it would just give pundits something else to bitch about. How mean our party is blah blah blah.

to use for the talking point released by the kerry campaign today.
Zell is on the record saying Kerry is the right man for defense, war on terror, etc. With Zell speaking at the RNC, the Repukes are going to be the ones needing to explain Zell's flip-flopping AND why they support the flip-flop so much

11. Putting Zealous Zell in the headlines only makes him "legitimate"
Edited on Thu Aug-19-04 01:52 PM by zulchzulu
His speech probably won't even be covered in the GOP Convention coverage unless you watch CSPAN. Yeah, he might be on a couple shows, but it would be a 1-day story at best...

Let him rot and prove he's a turncoat. We know who he is.

Perhaps the idea could be tossed around and have it be clear he's not even worth going through the effort. There are too many other more important things to be concentrating on.

12. I didn't think Zell was running for office again, so this is moot.
Wonder if he'll re-register as a Repuke after his term expires.
