Finding hope in the damnest places - stories from a Raleigh craft fair! |
|
Today I helped my wife set up for her first craft fair in a rather red section of Raleigh (inner beltline, McPalin signs everywhere). So, armed with multiple Obama/Biden buttons festooning (I couldn't wait to use that word in a post, since McGramps brought it out of mothballs at a debate) our shirts and my hat, We went to see how things were going.
The signs of Bush destruction were evident - talented people with handmade creations that were hardly selling anything because the economy is in the crapper. Anyway, I walked around and had a series of HOPEFUL conversations with three couples (one young, one middle aged, one old) and a number of the artists who were showing their wares. We talked about hope, about their enthusiasm for Obama, there was anxiety, nervousness, but truly excitement that we are on the cusp of, we are a part of something that could be the one of the biggest things in many of our lifetimes. One lovely woman said that our conversation gave her goosebumps, and that she couldn't talk about it much because she would start crying....
So, in a very red section of what used to be a red state, we felt anything but blue (as in sad)...by rallying around the upcoming conversion to blue (as in Gobama North Carolina)!
So, my wife, despite having sold hardly anything, and I came away thinking it was the very best part of our day.
Have faith, DU friends. We are gonna love how we feel on Wednesday!

3. I can totally relate to this part of your story: |

"and that she couldn't talk about it much because she would start crying...."
We've been through so much, and there is hope just a couple of days away, it's overwhelming. I never thought this day would come. There were some really dark days these last 8 years. Sometimes I find myself getting a lump in my throat just thinking about it. I cry daily reading these wonderful posts about GOTV, looking at pics of all the hopeful faces, the enthusiasm...my emotions are raw.
Even if the tough times don't clear up for another couple of years (or longer), at least knowing Obama is President makes me feel a bazillion times better...and he makes ME want to be a better person along the way.
Thanks for sharing. :)
