So are you all ready to kiss and make nice with the Republicans? |
|
Edited on Sun Nov-02-08 08:55 AM by IsItJustMe
I have been noticing several threads as of late that say, you know, it's time to join hands and bring this country together.
I have two things to say to you.
1) This election is not over and those Damn Deibold machines can still flip this thing.
2) Have you not been in the same country that I have been in for the last eight years? Have you lost you're fucking minds.
Priceless wisdom can even come from Republicans every now and then. I am all for holding hands and such, but I have lived through 8 years of hell. Yes, I will forgive, but I am not going to be a dumb fuck.
As Ronald Reagan once said, "yes, Trust, but Verify."
If you don't learn your lessons hear, you are going to have to take the course over again.
Believe me now or later, but I know you are going to believe me.

IOW, the same obstacles they have thrown up for the last 8 years will be doubled.
Screw the bastids. They are a minority and the way they treat minorities must be revisited upon them if they are to ever change. They shall reap what they have sown.

Democrats success will live or die by their appeal to the center. So you can go on the offensive if you like... but it will mean 2012 will look like 2000 all over again.
Good luck with that.

We are for equality. We are for the masses of people not just for the mass of crap at the financial top. There is no way we play by the same rules. But we must make them eat their crap they have dished out, otherwise they'll never learn. And we need them to learn, eh?

The latest plundering of our tax dollars to give to banks and insurance companies is proof positive that they should be kept away from the national checkbook for time immemorial and the meme that they have some kind of edge on national security should be drowned in an overflowing toilet.

Probably most importantly because the other morning Joe the Scar implied that they have every intention of hounding Obama in office through his entire term, the same way that they did to Bill. Scar was saying that Obama's "associations" needs to be investigated once he takes office. Go to hell, Joe--and any other republican who plans on this type of warfare.

I'll take my cues from President Obama. Much to the disappointment of many here Obama is likely to work with Republicans and listen to them and that has nothing to do with "kiss and make nice". Good luck to all who think that a great Democratic victory will be a great opportunity for vengeance and vindictiveness because I am sure that Obama will disappoint in that respect.

I am not promoting revenge. What I am promoting is for people not to let their guards down. PERIOD.
We are dealing with extreme forces here that will not give up their power or hatred lightly. We are dealing with extreme religious nuts that claim Obama is a terrorist. We are dealing with hate mongers like Limbaug, Hannity, O'Reilly and Fixed news.
I wished we lived in a perfect world; but the fact of the matter is that we don't. It is what it is and we have to be prepared for it.
By all means, where we find common ground, lets unite. But when it comes to issues that are fundamental to the Democratic Party, such as Social and economic justice, there can be no compromise. The one thing that I have learned over the past eight years about Republicans on these important issues is this, WATCH OUT FOR THE SUCKER PUNCH.
Unite where we can, and always stick to our principles is the way I see forward.

There is no compromise with that toxic propaganda. That's like a little bit of anthrax being acceptable.
As long as they push the same line, no. Hell no. If they want to apologize, change their tune, see the light? Then, trust but verify - and I'd add, always limit the amount of damage they are able to do anyway. Put perimeters on them (as in regulations).

Most republicans and democrats will agree on a lot of issues if you are able to remove the partisan bickering and the fighting over the credit. I'm tired of this 'us vs them' attitude, and we should try to move beyond that.
The Democrats have the power now, and it is in our advantage to unite the country instead of dividing it. I imagine some on the far right will try to attack us but we can marginalize them by reaching out to the moderate conservatives and independents. War should only be used as a last resort

64. Your first point is the main point |
|
it is not won - the most important thing is to build as big a mandate as possible.
Your second point - no kissing and no fighting - once we have power (see first point) civil negotiations and compromises can be considered, the bigger the mandate the fewer the compromises that will have to be considered.
There is no reason, having obtained power, to not be civil.

in SEIU Local 6, in negotiations, I can tell people that compromise is truly an art, and can be accomplished only through serious and tactful discussion. The more facts one has the better to press one's case. Ticking people off does little more than alienate them from your position, (think deLay and Lott). When WE have the power, we had better use it wisely, not foolishly like the R's have done in past.
While I am far from the neo-con position, I think that the better part of the R's, the fiscal responsibility aspect, is a good position. Unfortunately, that is no longer an aspect of the GOP.
In compromise, you realize you cannot get everything you want, but you work tirelessly to get the best deal possible for your people. It is in steps, as opposed to leaps. We must constantly move forward, and we can never allow neo-con policies to rise again, but we should have figured out long ago, that comprise is what politics is all about.
