My extremely encouraging trip this weekend to South Bend, Indiana
Three friends and I took a road trip this weekend to cheer on our Pitt Panthers against the Irish of Notre Dame (woohoo! Great win!), but that's not the point of this story.

The other three guys are all Republicans... one of them is quite freeperish, the other two are kind of moderate. The trip out was the longest 6 hours of my life. The car we were in has XM installed and they listened to the Fox News audio the whole way out.

Lots of passive/aggressive comments ensued, but I brushed them off and went about reading DU on my cell phone and listening to my IPod.

When we got to the game and were tailgating in the parking lot, a plane flew overhead with a banner trailing it saying "Vote for Obama Nov. 4". The entire section of the parking lot that I was in let out a cheer.

The freeperish guy in our group .... you could see the color drain from his face. He mumbled something like, "this is Indiana, on the campus of a freaking Catholic School" as he shook his head back and forth.

I smiled and gave him a thumbs-up sign and he just said, "oh, shut up."

After the thrilling Pitt win.... the ride home consisted entirely of listening to ESPN radio and talking about Pitt and the Steelers. No more political talk.

They know. The freepish types know. The game is over.

Barack will be the 44th President.

1. I recall reading on Friday that you were really dreading this trip....
But the GAME was worth every mile was it not?
