Why McFailin' and surrogates sound confident and Obama and surrogates warn that nothing is over |
|
They're trying to accomplish different things. For the past few days, I've listened to the candidates and surrogates and noticed that McCain and his stooges are full of bombastic "confidence", putting out the message that they've got this thing. Obama and surrogates are doing the opposite. Here's why: McCain is trying to get his base and leaners- many of them, less than wildly enthusiastic- out to the polls, in the slim hopes of pulling off an upset. Obama is trying to keep his supporters and leaners from complacency, and to achieve a landslide.
Thank the gods and godesses that there is only one more day of this shit.

1. I think that sums it up well, cali. McCain can't afford to have his base become demoralized |

2. What are they going to say? "We are getting our asses KICKED!!" |
|
Or in the case of the Obama campaign, "We are WINNING HUGE!! Don't even bother to vote! If its raining at your house on Tuesday, just stay home. NO PROBLEM!"
Of course McCain wants to sound confident, he wants his people to think there is a point to voting tomorrow. And Obama wants people on edge so they feel some urgency to vote.

4. I agree, but the cynic in me says they are also creating a cover for the massive fraud |
|
The optimist in me says it won't be enough and we're still going to kick their asses in a landslide.
I also think that like most of the modern day GOP, they really believe their own propaganda and might actually think they'll win somehow. Hell, they think Iraq and the economy are going well too, so what does that tell you about their realism?

The margin can only be about 2 or 3 points if they are to successfully and believably rig the vote.

6. Agreed. I would hope even they are not so greedy and stupid as to try a larger cheat |
|
but... looking at their policies, one never knows.
The other problem is that the cheating happens on many fronts, from disenfranchisement, to long lines, to purging, to flipping, etc.
We really need to fix these problems once we fire the Republicans.

7. I'm glad McCain's getting his base's hopes up. Their defeat will feel more crushing. |
