45. Why, why, why do people like him have so much self confidence? |
|
Why does he have the balls to go on TV? Does he have any self awareness at all? Why does he think that he, Joe the Plumber, is right about American tax policy? I just don't get it. I'm an informed, intelligent (IQ is 96th percentile, test administered by a psychologist), engaged person, and I work in government fiscal policy analysis, and I wouldn't go on TV to answer questions like he does. I certainly wouldn't think I had gotten the better of Obama on the original Joe to Barack question - Obama answered that question perfectly! And with lots of detail! And Joe's been parading around like he stumped Obama!
I think Palin falls into that category as well - dumber than a sack of hair, but makes up for it with totally undeserved self confidence, and massive self-centeredness.

Excellent points! lack of self-awareness, a closed "third eye", allows for self-righteousness, not knowing what they don't know, so these kinda people exude a brilliant and unclouded self-confidence.
Very seductive, and many people buy into ideas put forth by such people, just because they see that self-confidence and confuse it for clarity of reasoning. This needs to be taught in schools, people have to be able to recognize this and distrust it. Also people need to be taught that self-awareness and advancing your world-view through constructive self-criticism is the way for positive growth, not a sign of weakness as our society seems to believe.
I thought the exact same thing when I saw Sarah Palin speak at the RNC convention, the self-confidence of the unaware. You can throw George W. in there too, although I think he's lost some of that now and he has a little awareness of what a POS he has been, thus he seems much less confident these days.

56. My own worthless thoughts on Joe The Asshat... |
|
Keep in mind that I'm an American living in Egypt for the past 3 years. So I'm very grateful that I didn't have to see this bonehead every time I turned on the TV. I certainly saw him more than enough, and my major TV news sources over here are CNN-Intl. and the BBC. (Add for any lurking Freepers--and Al-Jazeera, of course!
I think the GOP saw Joe The Turdschlepper as their magic bullet. The symbolic event that would turn the whole election around. A sort of unplanned October Surprise that fell right into their laps. And years from now, PoliSci profs would be teaching about the GOP comeback in the 2008 campaign...
The staffers immediately wrote a script about JTP, Joe The Phony--"average 'murican confronts Obama's economic policies and wins, with down-to-earth reasoning" etc. etc. Now this is all BS, but these political "scripts" almost always are. As Josef Goebbels liked to note, the whole point is to create a simple story and hammer it into the dunderheads of the electorate. (And Godwin can bite me.)
And boy, did McCain hammer. In the third debate, he invoked Joe The Shitstirrer more often than James Dobson invokes Jesus. What was it, 27 times?
You could practically SEE the staffers behind the scenes earlier, writing that Big Dramatic Moment: McC. facing directly into camera: "Joe, I will help you buy that plumbing business," bla-bla-bla.
That was supposed to be IT. McCain's "Cross of Gold," his Checkers speech, the Big Moment when all of America would realize John McCain was standing up for Ordinary 'Muricans against the dangerous Socialist-Elitist Obama.
And it didn't work. Possibly because McCain didn't seem to believe it himself. That Big Moment just LOOKED completely fake and made up, at least to me.
So it fell flat on its face. Happily, much like the rest of the GOP campaign.

61. But, but Joe said it's different with him. He's paid into it more than he took. |
|
Based on the size of the budget, more of his tax dollars have gone into the Dept. of Defense and the wars we've waged in Iraq and Afghanistan. Does Joe feel that he's gotten a good return on that investment?
Why is this idiot still getting attention in the media? The more he talks, the more you realize what a phony buffoon he is.
Has this guy been working during the past month? How's he supporting himself? He's been on TV interviews daily from all over the place.
