I can hardly wait to see a newly decorated Oval Office
I have no clue about Obama's taste in furnishings. Will it be an ornate desk with carvings, sleekly modern or in between reserved. Wood or some other materials like glass topped.

I know someone posted a couple of days ago about being rid of the current furnishings. So I'll just agree and add that I'm joyfully anticipating what it will be like.

6. Remember the picture of Al Gore's office?
The three computer screens and papers piled everywhere.

I don't remember seeing O's senate office. Uncluttered is good.

15. yes, those are the pictures I remember - spare and modern..
partly his style, and partly that he was relatively new (not years of stuff accumulated), and not living in DC all the time.

16. Very nice... Classy & Unpretentious... just like our President-Elect Obama.

The personal items there probably reflect the person that works there very well... however I must have missed that plays the guitar. B-) As a music lover now I wonder what type of music he likes to listen to and play the most.

Thanks for posting the pictures. :)

22. here's what the AP caption said
about the guitar.....

In office of Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., on Capitol Hill in Washington, Thursday, July 24, 2008, one item that Obama originally planned to mount on the wall wound up on the floor; it's a white Gibson guitar that Obama received as a Rock the Vote honoree. The holes were already drilled to hang it on the wall when a guitar player who happened to be visiting the office convinced Obama that the instrument should be preserved in its case. Obama himself doesn't play.

8. My neighbor just gave me some the other day
She bound up several bunches and gave me two. I hung them up in the garage attic to finish drying.

The Oval will need a cleansing.

18. Agreed... Sage is great although for that place & Cheney's office but I was thinking...
Dragons Blood in the mix would probably be a very good idea too.

28. You do that part...
I'll get a bunch of Tibetan monks to come in and do about 12 hours of incomprehensible but spine chilling chants and we may have at least gotten a start in exorcising the bad juju that's bound to be floating around in there.

9. I am going to venture a guess that in general, he may not care
too much, as long as it is functional for him. He seems to be a man with simple tastes, as long as it is task-oriented. But I bet it will be simple and reserved and considerate of history.

13. And a First Lady who doesn't look like she's wearing the drapes from that office
From my point of view, Michelle Obama has wonderfully good taste, unlike the current Chimpess. I think Michelle's influence on the style of the Obama Presidency will make itself felt, every bit as much as Jacqueline Kennedy's influence back in the day.

20. It is weird how many First Ladies start looking upholstered.
Edited on Fri Nov-07-08 08:28 AM by Phoebe Loosinhouse
I don't see that happening with Michelle. You're right that she is just inately stylish a la Jackie Kennedy.

The Queen Mother always looked like she had her clothes and hats made from shower curtains, a look she passed down to Elizabeth.

21. The White House has a treasure trove of fine art in their "basement" for
residents to choose from.............I bet there will be fabulous AFRICAN ART displayed somewhere!

Also, I think that the Clintons chose an African American artist to do their formal portraits.

31. I bet there won't be any dress-shaped holes in them after 8 years
You know that on about day three of Obama's presidency, Michelle's going to open a closet and be absolutely buried in cut-up scraps of drapery fabric...
