It's the first time I've ever seen that fucking goofball without a shit-eating grin on his face whenever he's gotten together with any VIP's. Laura, who wasn't much better, was as cold as ice. The only ones smiling and being nice were Michelle and Barack. Who the fuck do those two assholes think they are to look so arrogant when they "greeted" the Obamas? If they can't be gracious, you'd think the worst president in the world and his wife would be a bit more humble at least. Jeesh.

12. I think she was comparing the red of her dress to the First Lady's ~Elect dress.
She realized then her dress was Rust, not Red. lol.
Loved Michelle's dress, wonder who designed it?

14. Maybe they were going to do certain things at certain times
and she was trying to decide where they should go first.

Maybe it was like "do we have time to go look at the rose garden before doing the formal tour?" I really don't think it means all that much. Having been in public relations for years I know how nerve racking these events can be.

We had Ted Kennedy as a guest at the social service agency I worked at and I can tell you I looked at the clock about 4 million times. Checking the time becomes a nervous habit because these events are so overly orchestrated and you just want to make sure everything goes off as smoothly as possible. Especially when the media is there. Ted Kennedy was 45 minutes late so nearly all of the best laid plans went out the window. But it was great meeting him anyway and the event went just fine. Just not as planned.

18. You're welcome.
I just recognized the awkwardness. She must have been so nervous.

4. I thought the Bush's appeared quite gracious. Laura looked at
her watch. OMG, schedules need to be met. Anything else you can think of to pick on? Oh and BTW, I think Laura looked lovely. This place is getting more freeperish everyday...

5. I agree. I saw nothing wrong. There's plenty to complain about Bush, but today's event was fine.

You're not the only person on DU who's got the right to pick on the Bushes if you feel like it, but nobody else can. Jayeeesus.

7. Well yeah, I think The Bushs can't wait to get out of DC.
That place is now hell for them. I think that's why Bushco is being so nice about transition right now.

8. Can you really blame them?
Imagine if you were the most unpopular President in American history, and you had to give a Whitehouse tour and introduction to Obama, who is hugely popular not only in the U.S., but also around the world. On top of that, you know that the guy you're showing around is going to go and undo all the evil shit you worked so hard to put into place over the last 8 years.

Sucks to be Bush today.

9. Hmm. I saw several grins from both of them. Let's try not to create drama where there is none.
I'm just tired of the drama. I was thinking, after seeing their faces, that Bush seemed pretty comfortable with Obama.

11. I'm the last person to try and create drama over something like that. I watched it twice
and the Bushes seemed way less gracious than I've seen them act with any other guests.

10. Like him or hate him (the latter for me), Dubya has the worst approval record in history.
He and Laura, in rare moments of clarity (probably very rare for them), are aware of this. And they were with someone with just an incredible amount of charisma and goodwill - more than Georgie ever experienced in his entire life. Add that to he had to meet with an intellectual heavy weight, compared to himself - made for a rather stressful event, I would say.
