MSNBC: Kerry told friends he believes that Hillary will be the next SoS |
|
This came from David Schuster at 9:48 AM.
"John Kerry has now told some friends he believes Hillary Clinton is now the next for Secretary of State".
I rewound the tape and listened several times to make sure I got the wording right. Of course, if he said this, then why in a later segment did they make it seem like Obama would have to "break the news" to him, when it appears he is completely in the know of what is going on.

I thought I heard "in the mix" when I first heard it, but I don't have a tape. But that's their headline now on MSNBC ( the "in the mix") again in the banner, so I don't know.

5. I just went to MSNBC's site and I don't see that banner. |
|
The only thing weird about what David said was NEXT FOR Secretary of State. Kind of an awkward phrase. He absolutely did not say "in the mix".

It was on tv just now when they mentioned Kerry.
Well, I know I wasn't the only person who misheard it, if what you post is true (I'll trust your tape and judgement ), but they definitely had an "in the mix" in reference to what Kerry told friends, on the bottom banner on MSNBC

9. I bet you there was a later segment that you saw. They probably |
|
keep repeating the story, and seem to not have the language down very well, as to exactly what Kerry told friends who then told MSNBC.

Oh well....tried to look for it on a site, but didn't see it. Let me know if you find it before me. If that's what they said at first (They turned it on at like 9:15) they changed the language later on.

3. How many degrees of separation between Kerry and the reporter. |
|
seems like a telephone game to me, where Kerry says somebody that "Sure, she should be considered. Everybody would consider Hillary for this type of post", and, with two or three intermediaries, it becomes what Schuster repeated.
I am not saying that she is not going to be it (though I hope not), but what Schuster said is totally unsourced and could mean anything.

6. You're right that it is not confirmed. But the fact that Hillary and Obama met |
|
yesterday in Chicago means the original "leak" was true.
I think this is going to happen. Why create all this hoopla, only to pass on her? That will anger her supporters. We, Kerry supporters, are being let down gently, it seems to me.

Not all Kerry supporters want to see him as SoS. In fact, most in MA want to keep him as their Senator. Others want to see him as SFRC chair.

What good candidates are there to take his seat in MA? Christ, I don't want him to leave--Kerry Healey might get a shot and she was Romney's Lt. Gov.

12. I was talking about what Kerry has supposedly said. I have no clue |

what Obama is thinking concerning a SoS position. I think there are better choice than Clinton, because Clinton in this position comes with Bill attached. This is not the domain where she has shown any special interest on her own, contrarely to defense or healthcare. I have no clue why this is done and will not speculate (previous speculations were mostly wrong, as I remember).
As for being letting down gently, I was not necessarily expecting Kerry to get it (if anything it was clear that the perspective of Feingold as chair of the SFRC was too much for the most moderate Democrats. The reports actually make me mad because they imply that the Clinton people in the transition team do not think Kerry should get it. I do not trust these reports either, but they are feuding dissension more than helping.

21. I'm a former supporter and I wouldn't be angry....look folks, |
|
if someone was a real progressive Hillary supporter, they are right now ecstatic that Obama is president.
If Hillary stays in the Senate or goes to the State Dept. I'm fine either way.
Please stop assigning all of these hypothetical temper tantrums "Hillary supporters" are going to have if we don't get our way. Maybe it's just a case of projection, but guess what, it ain't gonna happen, because right now, all of us are really psyched that Bush is leaving and Obama is going to Penn. Ave.

I seriously doubt that Kerry, who was like Obama in the VP search placing value on it being private, would violate any confidences. In addition, I doubt that close Kerry friends would violate anything said in confidence. Your conjecture makes sense - and it does mean something that Kerry likely said she should be considered.
On himself, Kerry has repeatedly spoken of being a Senator and has said he has not talked to the transition team.

In the debates Hill spanked Obama about his immature view of the world and how he would interact with the global community. She hardly seems the choice for SOS. Hope Kerry's wrong!

Kerry says he hasn't been contacted about the position, that he hasn't spoken to anyone on Obama's transition team, and yet the media reports he "told friends" that he "believes" Hillary is the next SoS.
Even if Obama does select Hillary, the above smacks of a bullshit report.

He did say he hadn't spoken to the transition team. But, does this mean the media admits Kerry has friends now! That's an improvement.

Obama is the President-elect. Nobody can force him to do anything. He's been surrounding himself with former Clinton staff, and if he wants to continue to do so by adding Hillary, that would be his choice.

31. This whole thing about Hillary as SoS may or may not be true |
|
I don't really know, but unfortunately Ted Kennedy's health is also a concern and it would mean the MA governor would have to appoint two senators. Maybe that's why some may urge Obama not to go with Kerry.
There are several suited for SoS, including Hillary, Kerry, Richardson, Wes Clark, and on the republican side - Hagel, and Lugar.
