Poll question: Do you think Obama should go down to Georgia and Stump for Jim Martin?
I know the argument against is about how Obama were to look if he lost, but I think its more important for him to at least try to get that Senate seat and go down there and rally the troops.

2. maybe if we win MN... but I think it would cause more turnout amongst repugs
if he did. And if they turn out, there's no way Martin will win.

4. As President Elect, Obama should not go in person - if Martin loses that will
be interpreted as Obama's weakness. I like that he has recorded a radio piece supporting Martin and the "O" campaign volunteers are on the ground supporting Martin and that is a lot of support.

Just my opinion...

5. It wont handicap Obama at all though if he loses.
He'll still have a Democratically controlled COngress and an election four years away. How weak could it make him?

15. The corporate media and citizens are already placing intense pressure on him,
Edited on Mon Nov-24-08 07:41 PM by IndyOp
- Obama - holding exceeding high expectations about his performance as soon as his term begins -- expecting immediate changes and immediate results from those changes.

If a loss from Martin weakens him at all it would be in terms of the corporate media, especially FOX and friends, using Martin's loss (if Obama campaigns for him) as "evidence" that a substantial number of people are afraid of the change that Obama is going to bring to D.C. and wanted Chambliss in Congress to slam on the brakes.

The likelihood that Obama will get the radical legislation that we need to jumpstart this economy and get moving FAST on transitioning to a green economy will be better if Obama doesn't have any association with a possible Martin loss.

I LOVE that Al Gore and Bill Clinton have been campaigning for Martin. I hope Martin makes it.

I think Obama would get a black eye from the media if he campaigned for Martin with either TV spots or in person and then Martin lost -- even if it was a tight, tight race; even if the election was stolen by Chambliss' supporters on Georgia's Diebold Touchscreen voting machines (which, of course, would never be discovered by the corporate media).

On Edit(s) - complete thought, clarification

6. not just know, but hell no.
He's made an ad and that's enough. He doesn't need to look like a candidate right now, and that's what actively campaigning would do. Plus, he's got enough on his plate right now.

8. I dont think it really hurts to do one big campaign event for Martin
I think Obama can take a a few hours of his schedule to go to Georgia. I dont think he'lllook like a candidate, but the President-Elect.

22. if you and i ran the corporate media...
it would be one thing, but, a few folks on the internet seeing it that way, compared to 24/7 coverage on the tv about Obama's 'failure' in GA senate race and how the honeymoon is already over, the bloom is off the rose and his support is already weakening...etc., etc., etc....

He made an ad, right? I think this is more than enough. Obama needs to keep with the job at hand.

One of the show promos says: The station where the hand-basket to hell departs from.

11. No, Martin has little chance of winning, and Obama can't afford to lose any political capital.
IMO.

13. He's busy on fars more important matters
Campaigning and raising money was all Bush ever did, except when he went on vacation to clear brush. He looked like an idiot doing it because no one was ever running the country - at least that we could see, 'cause we never got a good look at a single thing Cheney did from is undisclosed location.

Obama doesn't need to keep campaigning like Bush did.

14. No. When he was in the primary. He was one of those guys trying to run away from Obama
Claiming he would write John Edwards name in. Why should Obama go out of his way to help him?

19. No, but for a different reason
the Georgia runoff is essentially a special election, which will be won or lost with GOTV grunt work.

Visits from upper-lever VIPs (POTUS, VPOTUS, FLOTUS, etc) are a HUGE distraction for the campaign staff.

23. It would look too partisan right out of the box. He needs to bask in his victory plus
he's got a mountain of shit to deal with right now.

Bill Clinton and Al Gore are bringing it to Georgia. I think the big guns can handle this.

26. it would be viewed as a proxy Obama vs. McCain redux
Georgia has a poor track record with regard to a clean election process. Polls indicate Chambliss is anywhere from 2-6 pts ahead. The odds don't look good enough to risk what would be viewed as an unsuccessful proxy redux. Bill Clinton and Al Gore can handle this.
