Why do some people think Obama is weak? |
|
Edited on Wed Nov-26-08 11:05 AM by GarbagemanLB
That seems to be what a number of DUers are basically implying with this bullshit about him not wanting Hillary as S.O.S.
Anyone who has read about how he got his start in politics, and how he defeated his opponents, really wouldn't believe there is anything 'weak' about him. He can, and does, play hardball.
Which is it? Obama is a shrewd politician, as is evident by his immense rise in only 4 years, or he is a weakling who can't even stand up to Hillary? Considering he didn't pick her for VP, I'd say it makes no sense to argue he has no power to deny her an even lower position (S.O.S.).

4. The same people saying "OMG HILLARY IS FORCING OBAMA TO PICK HER AS SOS" |
|
were saying "OMG HILLARY IS FORCING OBAMA TO PICK HER AS VP."
Dude does what he wants. If he picks her, it's because he wants her as SOS. If he doesn't, it's because he doesn't.

President Obama is a shrewd and very savvy politician, he is probably our parties smartest politician since President Bill Clinton.
The choice of Senator Clinton to be SoS is an excellant choice....and I supported Senator Clinton throughout the Primaries, she was my first choice for Presidential nomineee.
I think as soon as Senator Obama became our nominee, I believe that the Hillary and Barack supporters buried the hatchet....so I don't see anybody involved as being weak.

7. There is no way Clinton could bully her way into any position with Obama. |
|
If he wants to offer her one, he will.
If he doesn't, he won't.
That's that.

Trying to find a reason to bash someone at every turn must be tiring. I'm surprised some of them are strong enough to hold their heads up. :eyes:

12. What will your next headline be..."Is Obama stupid?" |
|
Why do you phrase some of your headlines in a manner that invokes negative perceptions about Obama before anyone even has a chance to read the post?
You did it before, too, in another OP when you asked if Obama was going to be a liberal version of George Bush.

by people who lurk and only read the headlines that people are starting to think Obama is weak, when that isn't really the case. Sorry if I'm being overly fussy about that but it's just the perception that can be damaging.

22. There's a current poll on the board right now that does the same thing |
|
It's the one by another poster that asks "Do you regret voting for Barack Obama?" What a dumb thing to post as a headline, considering the percentage of people who regret voting for Obama is probably about .00001%. I think headlines like that particular one only serve to make passers-by think that lots of people might be regretting their vote, when that is certainly not the case.
"wedgey maneuver"...good assessment!

15. This could be true without him being weak. |
|
Part of this story is that she allegedly intends to block Obama's agenda in the Senate. She'd need eight Senate supporters to do so. Does HILPAC, DLC and Blue Dogs make that possible?
Would exposing her alleged attempt at SoS manipulation make that less possible?
On the other hand, if the story is true, it does demonstrate how much of a problem she would be in the Senate. As Secretary of State, she follows orders or gets fired. She can't even politic against the man. No joining the Republicans in their attacks on Obama like she did when they attacked Kerry. And when they attacked Howard Dean. And when they attacked Liberalism.
She might get SoS on her resume. But at the cost of her independance. Obama may just fall in love with that idea.

Obama hasn't announced the position yet, so everything is premature and speculation.
If you're going to speculate that Obama is weak based on a report that the initial rumor that the SoS position was offered to Hillary was a fabrication, consider another possibility: he's trying to find a way to help the Clintons save face. This is just as plausible as the rumors and speculation that have been thrown around for nearly two weeks, beginning with George Stephanopoulos' mention.
Still, there has been no official announcement that Hillary is the next SoS.

23. The same was said about Lincoln |

I'll rest my case there until his term actually starts.
He's done nothing that's shown weakness so far. I mean, he's doing what he thinks is correct and not what the loudest screaming section is saying he should do. I admire that.
