|
To: i_dont_chat “There are people out there who know the truth — and the truth will come out.”
You bet your backside there are folks in the know!! My bet is PUTIN,CHAVEZ,IMMANUTJOB, CHINA and every enemy of the United States knows the truth and are waiting with baited breath to blackmail our POTUS ELECT.

I know "bait" is listed as a variant of "bate" in the OED but I still think it is an ignorant usage if one considers the meaning of the words.

2. What country is Mr. China the leader of? |
|
Anyway, "baited breath" is a very common mistake, like "tow the line," "bellweather," and "low and behold." More irritating than amusing.

8. Christine O'Donnell, who was Biden's senate opponent here in DE.... |
|
Has campaign materials accusing Barack Obama of "cow towing to foreign leaders".
Those leaders must have been impressed... like... "Hey, look, here comes Barack Obama and he's bringing a cow with him."

"Mr. Putin, I understand our countries have had their differences in the past, and that you take our deployment of a missile defense shield to be an unacceptably aggressive action. We understand your concerns, and offer a gift of two hundred thousand prize cows, along with my oldest daughter, as a sign of goodwill and a marker of everlasting peace. Please take this cow, here, in a ceremonial acceptance for the cameras."

With enough camels and goats, towing them to the middle east might go a long way toward solving some real problems.

Baited breath is probably appropriate ...
at least its more concise than strong enough to knock a buzzard off a shitwagon at 20 paces breath

5. I am waiting with bated breath..... |
|
...for the simple explanation...Which is that "bated" breath is an old english shortcut to "abated" breath....meaning that when eagerly awaiting something you might tend to "hold your breath". Baited breath refers to either the most serious anchovy pizza ever known or a tendency for ones breath to smell like rotting mackerel:see lobster bait...

I know, "shattered" doesn't rhyme with "taters," but I had to do it.

third grade at St. John's Catholic Grade School on 25th & California Street (now gone), I got knuckled on the head during Mass (we had to attend with our class every Sunday) because of something my Mom said to someone (obviously one of my brothers) in frustration while trying to get us out the door. I think it was my brother John who was messing with her (he hated Mass) and finally she got so pissed off she told him that he was
"as useless as tits on a board"
Oh well, that gave me the giggles to this day. When I think back to that incident, I start giggling again. Just picture that in your mind.

27. Are you sure she didn't say: "As uselss as tits on a boar?" |
|
That would make more sense ... A male pig (boar) wouldn't be able to suckle the piglets.
Sounds like one of those old timey sayings that originated in our agrarian past.
