When Obama is officially the President, and his nominees are confirmed, the buck stops at him
Edited on Wed Dec-17-08 03:14 PM by ProSense
Obama: "I expect them to implement that vision once decisions made."

Melody Barnes will head the Domestic Policy Council:

The Domestic Policy Council (DPC) of the United States is the principal forum used by the President of the United States for considering domestic policy matters, excluding economic matters, which are the domain of the National Economic Council. It is a committee of Cabinet chaired by the President. It has had a number of titles under different presidents:

The Domestic Policy Council coordinates the domestic policy-making process in the White House and offers policy advice to the President. The DPC also works to ensure that domestic policy initiatives are coordinated and consistent throughout federal agencies. Finally, the DPC monitors the implementation of domestic policy, and represents the President's priorities to other branches of government.

Lawrence Summers will head the National Economic Council.

After Obama's nominees are confirmed, they will be expected to carry out his vision, and policy will be set and coordinated through these Councils.

No cabinet member is going to be responsible for setting policy. They will each have input, but the buck stops with Obama.

1. Has he fired anyone in his Cabinet yet?
That's the argument I keep hearing for the pro-corporate pro-imperialism picks.

2. Does that make sense?
They haven't been confirmed and are not on the job.

3. Guess I should have used a sarcasm icon
The argument is that by stuffing his Cabinet with DLCers and warmongers Obama can "always fire them."

I say fire them now!
Start fresh!

4. We are supposed to have faith the Obama can micromanage the entire government to insure that
his vision is implemented?

Even Superman would have trouble with that task.

Those cabinet members are not simply yes-posts, they have great power to shape the specifics. To deny that is naive, and dangerous.

5. No,
we're supposed to understand that if Obama's vision isn't implemented and someone goes rogue, they will be replaced.

The notion that cabinet officers are going to be off doing whatever they want to outside of a defined policy is what's naive.

People will be watching and, you can bet, complaining otherwise. If Obama does nothing in that event, it will be assumed that he approves.
