I'm a civil rights whiner. They're coming for the gays and not for me. Today I won't be silent. I have high hopes for Obama and normally I love his pragmatism & centrism. Today I do not. I'm 100% in the tank for Obama, but goddamn, he's wrong for giving a high symbolic honor to a man who symbolizes oppression to our gay brothers and sisters.

I'm sorry that so many DUers who aren't bothered by this symbolic act are belittling those who are angry right now. You don't have to be on my side of this argument, but don't tell me I'm wrong to be against this.

Someone tell me instead how we're going to register our protest. How can we say "We don't approve; you've hurt some us" in way that our voices will be heardi?

5. De nada. My sense of noblesse oblige always makes me willing to help you lesser citizens
I wonder if not getting full civil rights gets you some kinda discount on your federal taxes. That seems fair to me.

4. I support Obama 100% but you are correct on this issue.

Why don't you start an official "Message to the Obama campaign" that reflects the many repeat many issues that are raised on the Warren choice.

Beyond the GLBT issues there are other issues including the fact that he is confirming Warren into a role as successor to Graham when he really represents the anti-intellectual wing of Protestantism. He got his Dr at Fuller and establishes himself in his own Church rather than be apart of a larger connected Church.

Its an awful choice - but its not going to ruin an otherwise great day.

8. I think something a little louder than a petition is called for.
I don't think people should heckle Warren during the invocation itself. No one should boo during the prayer itself--that would be counterproductive & generally bad form. But some act, like turning their back on Warren when he speaks, will reject this wholly in appropriate messenger of intolerance.

12. Well the reality is that most of the people that are going to be incensed
about this issue (i.e. DU types) they are going to need binoculars to see what is going on.

Any heat on the issue is likely to be felt before the ceremony not during it.

A person who loathes the Constitution should not be allowed to give a speech at the inauguration of the President. A person who, quite obviously, does not believe that "all men are created equal" does not deserve this honor.

I, too, am disappointed.

13. Just to be clear
Warren will not swear in the President. The Chief Justice administers the oath.

9. The move by the JCCIC was tone deaf and insensitive. Everyone should
email them and threaten to boo/protest Warren at the Inauguration.

14. Nicely done Bucky so much so i'm not going to post an obligatory joke about your mom/.
i think the others threads were excellent fly paper btw, we know what Warren is but it was interesting to see how many are willing to defend and or justify him being there.

That would be one way, although I'm not sure if the message will be heard soon enough.

28. My suggestion for a protest symbol (you opinion requested)
Either one of these could be used. I call it the "inequality flag." One is has an empty or missing equality symbol. The other has a blacked out equality sign. That second one looks more dramatic, but the symbolism of the "whited out" equals sign seems more consistent with my core complaint.

Anyone got any feedback for me?
