The Clean Coal Google Ad at the top of the home page is just offensive

There is no such thing as clean coal. It shouldn't even be on the table.

But, there is a giant google ad at the top of DU, aimed at US, trying to convince us that Clean Coal is the equivalent of sending a man to the moon.

Does DU have any control over Google ads that come up on its pages?

Firefox + Adblock Plus + Filterset.G updater = no ads anywhere.

2. It's my understanding that DU has no control over the ads...
This is what I've heard.

And...

If you have a donor star, then you can turn off the ads.

I did that, and it's so much better.

:hi:

3. I don't see it
I try to contribute at least $5 a year. It isn't much and I used to do more, and I don't do it to prevent the ads, but it doesn't seem like a lot if the ads bother you so much.

Or, you could just click on the ads - make a bunch of money for DU - and cost whatever company a bunch of money at the same time.

4. Not nearly as offensive as their filthy animated lumps of coal singing Xmas carols
And no, I'm not posting a link. But it's repulsive.

5. There is a fantastic TV ad on now. It shows this guy supposedly pimping for clean coal.
He is yelling to be heard "over the noise of the clean coal" processor. He goes on and on..pointing at stuff..and there is NOTHING THERE BUT EMPTY DESERT.
At the end there is a screen that says, "THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS CLEAN COAL"

GREAT AD

6. The foolishness of advertising
According to marketing experts, there's nothing with qualities so bad that advertising can't overcome it. That must be why clean coal ads appear here at DU and if you went to a vegetarian board, you might find ads for Omaha Steaks. Remember, the Iraq War had to be started in March, not September, because you can't roll out a "new product" in the fall leading up to the Christmas season.

I think Lenin said something about capitalists and ropes that is appropriate here; he just forgot to mention that before the capitalist sold the rope to his own hanging, he would have advertised a sale on it.

7. I thought you were going to say it's offensive because it doesn't support gay rights. [/sarcasm] n/t
