Is it possible the Democratic leadership (inc. Obama) are willing to sacrifice the gay vote... |
|
Edited on Sat Dec-20-08 06:56 AM by DCBob
to get more moderates and conservatives? I think there is a dirty little secret, maybe not so secret, within the party that blames the "gay" issue for Kerry's loss in 2004. I am sure many of you remember there were ballot initiatives in several states including Ohio banning same-sex marriage. Many think that energized Republican turnout and doomed Kerry in Ohio thus giving the election to Bush. Right or wrong, this may be in the minds of many Democrats.
This is not a flame. It is something that needs to discussed openly. It is an unfortunate reality of the country we live in.

1. Personally, I think it is them trying to have their cake and eat it too. |

They know most gays and lesbians will not vote Republican (or refuse to vote), in spite of being shat upon time and time again, we know the alternative would be worse.

2. Yeah, I guess it's easy to dump on the gay community because they have nowhere else to go.. |
|
but the risk is that the party could lose some of the best, most dedicated workers and activists.

But we shall see, won't we? The election is over for now, and in Obama's governance, we have a few years to know everything that you are inquiring about.
But no, I don't think that it is about sacrificing the vote of a sector of our society. The Gay community extends out....it is not a small block. Even looking at the Prop 8 vote percentage shows you that. We are just in need a few more percentage points here and there. I think that this is what Obama is working on.....
Considering how much he has riled the Gay Community, when he does what needs to be done in favor of GLBT rights, the other side (including the media) won't have shit to say.

5. I hope he does move forward aggressively on GLBT rights. |

I think if anyone could pull it off without taking a major political hit, it would be Obama. He may be laying the groundwork for that now.

Kerry 'lost' because repugs stole the election; Kerry did NOT lose.

You are sacrificial because you always come out form me no matter what we do.
Unless your middleclass and white or now hispanic you don't matter because you will always be there for me.
If your a husband who is cheating and your wife just yells at you everytime you cheat...well they generally keep cheating.
