Dear President CrackBerry - Keep Fighting the Good Fight!

This is meant in good humor so take it for what it is worth.

Background - I work in the Wireless Industry and I've seen this addiction up close. Hey! I was just in a meeting yesterday where a ton of blackberry storms were on the table and all I heard was series of "dings" and "chimes" for you've got mail. The best part? :-) People were emailing each other that were IN the meeting!

At work I've seen:
People email in the restroom.
Make excuses for why it helps them stay on their game.
Fall off elliptical machines in the company gym trying to respond to an email.
The best? On the Tree in the Pilates room. Where's the Zen man? Where's the Zen?
On a voice call on a handset while emailing on their CrackBerry/Smartphone.
Way way too many people walk into walls and closed doors - - do I have to say why?

So for once, I'm watching Morning Joe and NOT screaming at the T.V. and they show the snippet of President Obama talking about 'holding onto his Blackberry because . . . .

Reuters Picked it up:

Obama fights to keep his blackberry

HAND OFF! US President-elect Barack Obama vowed a fight to the finish - not over his economic plan, but to hang on to his BlackBerry.

"They're going to pry it out of my hands," he told CBNC about his BlackBerry, a cellphone made by Research In Motion Ltd that handles e-mail and has become an essential accessory for on-the-go movers and shakers.

The 47-year-old Obama, cosseted in a security cocoon, driven around in a heavily guarded motorcade and finding he cannot walk down the street without a major fuss, is already feeling a bit suffocated.

He is trying to avoid the fate of President George W. Bush, who gave up e-mail when he took power in 2001 because his lawyers determined any such electronic communications would have to be preserved for posterity as presidential documents.

There are also concerns that presidential electronic communications could be hacked into by the mischievous or the malevolent.

Obama said keeping in touch by e-mail was a way of escaping the trappings of power and staying in touch with regular people.

After all, Harry Truman once referred to the White House as the "great white jail."

"I've got to look for every opportunity to do that -- ways that aren't scripted, ways that aren't controlled, ways where, you know, people aren't just complimenting you or standing up when you enter into a room, ways of staying grounded," he said.

As of now, he is hanging on to his BlackBerry.

"This is a concern, I should add, not just of Secret Service, but also lawyers. :rofl:You know, this town's full of lawyers. I don't know if you've noticed," he said.

*******************************
There's a lot of yuck, ugly, and b.s. going on in the world and the USA.

But - you have to love his sense of humor (the lawyer comments  )

And I so want to send him this note:

Dear President Obama - you are NOT fooling me. I work daily with the people that launched the latest CrackBerry and I was integral in putting it in the hands of the public. I know. I just KNOW you have GOT to get your hands on the Storm. But I'm onto you! I see that glint in your eye . . . your hand shaking . . . desperately looking for a keypad to push. The fear of not hearing the chirp/chime for 8 years. Oh! The HORROR of it! But, I'm here to tell you. . . it's going to be okay. You will survive not having a CrackBerry. And in 8 years - all will be right in the world again. But stop using me as an excuse. I will not enable this anymore - except. I have a mock-up (plastic display unit) Storm on my desk. In order to aid you in this transition - I will send you that to hold onto! :-) You can sit in meetings with Joe and Rahm and press the plastic buttons until one day - aaaaaaaah - you will need a BlackBerry no more. Please provide the shipping info and I will send over to you toute suite!

;-)
