Don't worry, we're moving past that and already on the Obama " DNC Affair" and Dean "snub". I'm sure that when Obama announces his technology team and FCC head that complaints will shift to nitpicking what is wrong with those guys too.

It would be great if that laser like focus could stay on the Republiscum until they are banished forever from the national scene but we'd rather destroy ourselves so the Reich can take over again soon and continue utterly destroying our country as we have allowed the last generation.

16. It A Surprising Affront To Democrats To Appoint A Reactionary Liar |
|
It's the surprise that does it. Gupta just stood there and lied and lied about simple and provable things - he might as well been saying north is south. It's very surprising that such a person should be honored - and little good can come of it.

Everyone doesn't have to worry about every issue, but there's never a reason to eliminate from concern one issue simply because it is not as omnipresent as other issues.

He's in bed with big pharma and is in cahoots with the Medical Insurance industry. He's also an ass. Other than that though, he'll make a fine sturgeon general.

21. Actually, no right now. |
|
Health care is of prime importance and it is tangent to the economic crisis. His cold hearted approach to how medical care should be delivered, that is to those who can pay, and the hell with everyone else is not what is needed right now. Incidentally, one of the reasons we lost a lot of union jobs to Canada was because the manufacturers didn't have to worry about providing health insurance to their employees. Canada has a single payer universal health care system that covers everyone and so companies don't have to provide health insurance.

Sanjay Gupta is a medical corporatist, which is sickening. But he's not (to my knowledge) a treasonous PNAC war criminal like Dennis Ross or Richard Holbrooke and whoever the other son of a bitch mentioned was.
Gupta is merely a severe disappointment. The others are completely inexcusable.

27. Health care is a critical and major battle. |
|
I don't see Gupta as the best doc in the country to be Surgeon General and I don't see him advancing health care issues in this country.
Our country desperately needs a single payer universal coverage plan - MORE SO EVERYDAY.
The middle class is falling into poverty and bankruptcy often due to medical expenses.
Something like 25% of the working class do not seek cancer treatment once they get a diagnosis because they either do not have insurance or have inadequate insurance.
Every leading industrial nation and democracy has national health care plan provided by their government. The time is now. The need has never been more critical. If we can throw trillions at the financial industry, why can't we have single payer universal coverage in the US?
Gupta is a pretty media doc and he is not in touch with or have much passion for this issue. I think he would stink as Surgeon General.

Why, Jimmy Dean said his brother would have CHANGED HIS TRAVEL PLANS if he had been asked to the "affair" (sorry, press conference) with Obama and Tim Kaine!
He would have CHANGED HIS PLANS! Obama is dead to me!

30. I didn't say he isn't a corporate stooge |
|
I'm not sure if he has some carry over belief in a caste system, is a Republican douchebag, or what. If he's just a stooge then he's for sale and has taken his services on the road for Obama, which I can easily live with because it is still about if Obama screws us or not. If he comes through and everyone has affordable access that they won't loose then I'll take that as promise fulfilled because that's what he said. If he screws us then Dean, Hippocrates, or Marcus Welby MD in the position wouldn't help us even the least bit.
If Gupta has been bought then he'll be a nice little pied piper. So far, I think it would be fair to say that Obama is doing a stellar job of taking action towards doing exactly what he said he would do. Better than anyone that I've seen even compared to Reagan who got going fast on all the evil and greedy mind stuff he promised to do. I don't have the energy to get outraged at a Surgeon General selection because it either doesn't matter or it is a good thing in my way of thinking. The position it's self lacks the policy impact to be a true agent of anything.
If I need to turn on Obama then I will but as of now he's batting .500+, which laps HoF territory so I'll let him go with the green light. Swing for the fences Obama! Get us a shill to shove something positive down the throats of the stupid pricks.
