I voted for Obama because I wanted a Democrat in the White House and he inspired me.
I did not like many of his policy stands such as "moving forward" rather than prosecuting lawbreakers at the highest levels of government, exempting telecoms from prosecution for illegal surveillance of Americans, supporting civil unions instead of gay marriage, offering enchanced health insurance coverage instead of universal single-payer health care, increased ethanol production instead of conservation and other alternative fuels. BUT I supported him because he was a far better choice than a Republican.

Now that President-Elect Obama is about to take office it is my duty as a citizen to try my best to influence him to see the value in the positions that I advocate and to convince him to change his stance on some of the policy stands that I listed above.

After hearing him waffle about prosecuting the war criminals and lawbreakers in the Bush administration, I am more committed than ever to try to change his mind.

I WILL NOT ASSUME that he knows what is best for America if he thinks letting the criminal acts of the last eight years go unpunished is the right course of action.

We have to keep speaking up.

3. He is the president of America and all of America will try to convince him they are right
and their issues are the most important. Such is the presidency

4. Agreed. And that's why we need to ramp up the outcry from liberals and Progressives;
otherwise, we get left out of the process.

5. I honestly did not have a sense that they will not prosecute.
I really did not take that away from the interview.

I DO think, however, that Obama himself is gonna be working on subjects other than hunting down everything the current regime did wrong. I honestly took what he said as being that the AG's office will deal with the prosecution and the decisions about that while Obama and the rest are cleaning up other messes.

To him, I don't think it is about witch hunts or political retribution, it is about letting the legal system work the way it is supposed to. That is something I respect (and always have from when he was here in the Illinois Senate) about him--he's able to take hs personal ego out of the mix, I think. He CAN delegate and has a good sense of who he can trust with what jobs.

To me, looking in from the outside, the AG's office is gonna stay busy investigating this crew for a LONG time because there is so much there. It may not be that protracted, however, if the international courts get involved--and Obama may know a lot more than he can tell George Stephanopolis.

In any event, I figure I'm gonna get a lot further influencing opinion with a Dem Whitehouse than I ever could have with the neocon crew we just had.

Peace.

Laura

6. Let's wait to judge until he actually is in office. He needs current admin to be as cooperative as
possible at this time. There will be attempts to set him up to fail by repugs as it is. Let him decide what he needs to do first.

7. Yes, because before he's even sworn in, he's going to telegraph everything
he wants to do.

:wtf:

Good god.

8. It's not either or, and he's not waffling.
As President, Obama will be focused on doing things right in the future. As Attorney General, Holder will be focused on addressing past crimes. The President doesn't prosecute, the Attorney General does. They both do their jobs at the same time. One doesn't prevent the other.
