Why do Americans love Obama so much?
Edited on Sun Jan-18-09 06:08 PM by Drunken Irishman
Is it because of what Bush has done?

Never before has a president entered office with such a mandate. Not even Nixon or Reagan, after their landslides, had so much of the country behind them.

1. My love for Obama has nothing to do with Bush.
I don't know why, but I trust Obama to do all of those things many of us progressives having been wanting for years; like universal healthcare, energy independance through alternative energies, actually supporting the middle-class, and even gay marriage.

We'll see, but I haven't seen anything yet to show me that he won't accomplish these things.

3. Obama reminds me a great head coach.
He's disciplined, tough and has an unheard of work ethic. If you're going to succeed as a coach, you need all of that and those who do succeed, are generally cut from the same cloth. I think that fits Obama perfectly and I see a man who will work every hour for this country, unlike Bush who vacationed and on the side ran the country.

6. What you said....
.....seriously, that's exactly how I feel. Nothing at all to do with Bush.

2. The nation is so badly fucked up right now
that anyone reasonably charismatic who ran on a platform of fixing all that fucked up shit would be loved right now. Obama is charismatic and people think he can do it. So he gets that love.

I really hope he can pull it off. He's going to have a huge up-hill battle against entrenched bureaucratic obstacles, hidden bush appointees that they couldn't find and dismiss, basic greed and incompetence and a whole legion of other obstacles.

I think he has a serious chance of achieving some major success. But I think some of the DLC people in his administration are going to be undermining him and holding him back.

4. He's inspiring and positive
Bush relied on defining us negatively. About all the enemies who wanted to attack us.

Bush would never have thought of that train ride - the history Obama mentioned, and all that. He really loves this country. The right wingers only love it when at at war.

11. Obama is the first man I have related to since
JFK's presidency. I am tied to him because of his intelligence and compassion. It is so nice to see a man who I admire so much who aspires to elevate the Presidency to a position of respect. We who are old enough have had our heart broken so many times before with JFK, MLK, RFK assasinations. For once I can hope again. God protect our President and keep him from harm.

10. Because he truly represents American values........
not the type of "values" the Repukes tried to shove down our throats these past 8 years. He and his absolutely beautiful family show us what families should aspire to. He represents sincerity and someone who believes you should walk the talk.

12. He speaks to the best in us. To the hope.
Bush spoke to the worst in us. To the fear.
