C-SPAN 2 -- Senate discussions on Hillary's nomination/confirmation
Edited on Wed Jan-21-09 03:13 PM by Patsy Stone
If I heard correctly, she's waiting to be confirmed before she can join the discussion on Iraq in the Sit Room.

Dick Durbin is speaking now.

"In mid-afternoon Obama was scheduled to meet with his economic advisers before heading to the Situation Room for a meeting on Iraq and national security with his defense secretary, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and others.

Obama has said that on his first day he would ask top military officials to give him a plan for withdrawing combat troops from Iraq over a 16-month period and redeploying some to Afghanistan.

He also is asking his team to prepare a plan to close the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, which has come under criticism for its handling of terrorism suspects. The new president on Tuesday ordered a 120-day halt to military tribunals there."

1. John McCain came out earlier and said just confirm Senator
Clinton, not in those words, but he is tired of the partisan BS.

or something like that, wanting this to be done, but I didn't know who it was. Thanks for the info. I think this is a roll call vote to open the floor to discussion, not the vote on confirmation, but I'm not sure.

3. Arlen Specter speaking now about how it's not a bad thing to talk to our enemies.
He's in favor of the nomination, but on the conflict of interest with regards to the Clinton Foundation, he agrees with Lugar's ideas of how it should be handled.
